Roseville resident dies in SR-89 crash north of South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A collision on SR-89 north of D.L. Bliss State Park is under investigation after one person died from injuries suffered in the crash.

On August 8, 2022, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the report of a single-car collision on the highway at Rubicon Drive. CHP says a 2018 Honda driven by Jong Park, 75, of Roseville, Calif. had been traveling southbound when he noticed traffic in the opposite direction. Park moved his vehicle to the right to make room for his car on the highway. The driver made an unsafe turning movement to the right on the curved portion of the highway and lost control of his vehicle. The Honda left the roadway and collided with a mile marker and two trees, resulting in major front-end damage to the vehicle.

There were two passengers in the Honda, 66-year-old Jane Park, and 44-year-old Young Park. Jane was in pain and transported to Renown Medical Center in Reno where she succumbed to her injuries on August 12. Young had abrasions and lacerations while Jong reported pain.

Due to the collision becoming a fatality, CHP has reopened its investigation and is pending further follow-up.
