Lisa Maloff donates $141,000 for new South Lake Tahoe Police K9

Lisa Maloff has recently donated millions of dollars to the South Lake Tahoe community to help at the community college, hospital and other needed areas. She was honored during Tuesday's City Council meeting for her recent donation to purchase and train Ricci, the Police Department's newest K9 officer.

Ricci is a 20-month-old Belgian Malinois. The original donation of $116,000 also covered the cost of K9 training, a new K9 vehicle, veterinary bills, food, maintenance and continued K9 handler training for a year. Maloff added another $25,000 during Tuesday's meeting to purchase a bullet-proof vest for Ricci.

South Lake Tahoe Police Officer Scott Crevelli is the assigned handler of Ricci.

Ricci was given a bow to wear during the ceremony because, as Lisa Maloff said, "Every package comes with a bow."

“Lisa and my family go back a long ways and it’s a real honor to be able to present her with this recognition today,” said Mayor Hal Cole.

During the ceremony Mrs. Maloff shared a story of an attempted robbery at their family lodging property, the Lake Tahoe Inn. The perpetrator was apprehended by a South Lake Tahoe K9.

“The K9 program has a long history within the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and is extremely important. The K9’s protect officers; assist with finding lost and missing persons and locating narcotics,” said Police Chief Brian Uhler.
