American Legion and Gold Star Mom withdraw support from local event

American Legion Post 795 has withdrawn all support and endorsement of the Forever Dreams for Veterans program scheduled at MontBleu on September 6, 2014. Gold Star Mom, Patty Smith, mother of Sgt. Timothy M. Smith who was killed in action, has also rescinded all support. The Rose of Love ride from the Carson City Harley Davidson site to the American Legion in South Lake Tahoe has been cancelled.

The Legion Post has distanced itself from Janet Franco, associated with Forever Dreams for Veterans, Life After Active Duty, Nurturing Our Warriors, Global Transformation Network, and NexusWellTainment. Logos on the Global Transformation Network indicating support from the National American Legion, American Legion Post 795, and Liberty Utilities were posted without knowledge or permission of those entities, and a take down notice has been delivered.

"Upon further discovery, we saw no benefit for any veteran group, much less our local veterans," said Larry Spencer, Commander, American Legion Post 795, South Lake Tahoe. The Legion was able to recover some of the checks written to Ms. Franco and will be returning those to the people who wrote them to either Forever Dreams or Ms. Franco.

Franco has not yet replied to a request for comment from South Tahoe Now.
