Firefighters quickly put out Carson River Resort fire

1:50 p.m. update 8/21: Fire officials have updated the acreage burned in Saturday's fire at the Carson River Resort. 29 acres burned have burned and fire fighters are in mop up mode.

The fire is now 60 percent contained.

8:00 a.m. update 8/21: Firefighters have been able to get a 40 percent containment line around the Carson Fire which has burned 50 acres around the Carson River Resort south of Markleeville.

According to the Sierra Front Incident Dispatch Center, ground crews are now in mop up mode and the fire has stopped spreading. A resident in the area says the fire is out thanks to the quick response of fire crews.

All roads in the area are open without controls.

Alpine County Fire and U.S. Forest Service had a unified command on the fire response.

11:00 p.m. update: The Carson Fire is now 5 percent contained, having burned 50 acres since it started at the Carson River Resort near Markleeville at 3:25 p.m. Saturday.

The California Highway Patrol evacuated the cabins and trailers at the resort as the fire jumped from being a building fire to a wildland fire. State Route 89 from Monitor Pass to Markleeville was closed for awhile during the afternoon.

One mobile home and three buildings at the resort were destroyed.

6:30 p.m. update: Forward progress of what is now known as the Carson Fire is currently stopped after burning 50 acres so far at the Carson River Resort on State Route 89 south of Markleeville.

Air and ground resources are engaged. One building and a motorhome at the resort burned before moving into the surrounding vegetation.

According to the California Highway Patrol, they have opened one lane of traffic in the area of the fire.

A structure fire in Markleeville has spread to nearby vegetation, closing down State Route 89 on the outskirts of the mountain community south of Lake Tahoe.

The 3:25 p.m. fire brought closure of both southbound and northbound lanes of the highway starting at the Carson River Resort.
