Bread & Broth 4 Kids wraps up successful summer food program

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Bread and Broth 4 Kids (BB4K) just wrapped up their first summer food program for the children of South Lake Tahoe, and it was a very successful one.

Between June 12 and August 23, 1,156 bags full of food were given out to children who picked them up at St. Theresa's Parish Hall and Tahoe Valley Elementary School, as well as deliveries volunteers made to children at the Boys and Girls Club, Family Resource Center, Live Violence Free, Appleseed Academy Preschool and Under the Magic Pine Tree. During their last giveaway day on August 23, 243 kids received a bag full of fresh fruit, bread, milk, dinners, lunches, breakfasts and snacks. Starbucks donates bags of pastries each week to put in the kid's bags as a special treat, not only during the summer but during the whole school year.

Prior to this summer, BB4K gave weekend bags of food to 130 children each Friday during the school year only.

Vail Resorts CEO Rob Katz and his wife Elana Amsterdam made a substantial financial donation to get food to the children of South Lake Tahoe during the summer. Employees from Heavenly Mountain Resort and a big crew of volunteers helped the program get off to its successful inaugural summer.

"We're looking forward to next summer and feeding even more children," Bread & Broth posted on their Facebook Page.

Stop by their bi-annual Cram-a-Cruiser event at the South Lake Tahoe Grocery Outlet on Saturday, September 30. They will be taking donations of food for the kid's backpack program and filling up a South Lake Tahoe Police cruiser.
