Parks, Trails and Recreation Draft Master Plan released by City and County

The Recreation Mater Plan has been in front of local citizens, community groups and staff for the past several months, and now their ideas and suggestions has formulated a Draft Master Plan that can now be reviewed.

The Plan is intended to provide strategic guidance for the management, improvement and development of City and County parks, in conjunction with the recreation opportunities provided by other public and private entities in the South Shore.

Recreation needs in South Lake Tahoe were evaluated and the plan was developed to prioritize when items could be implemented.

The plan outlines the high priority capital projects and operation needs. The first year capital projects would be a Bijou Bike Park, improvements to the Al Tahoe sports fields, Regan Beach Master Plan, City trails resurfacing and signage improvements, County Trails projects, Recreation and Aquatic Center Master Plan, campground improvements, recreation area shop relocation and a greenway extention.

"Quick wins" were determined as things that would be done in the first year after the plan is approved to increase operational efficiencies so the city and county could better respond to the needs of the public. They include and online reservation system, data tracking, improved trail maintenance and snow removal, and community meetings.

Once the public reads the plan there is a four question survey people can take.

An Open House will be held , on September 25 at 7 p.m. so community members can see the plan, ask questions, share ideas. It will be held at the Recreation & Swim Complex located at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd.

In the meantime, the plan can be viewed here or hard copies can be viewed at the Recreation & Swim Complex located at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd and at Tahoe Valley Airport located at 1901 Airport Rd.
