Constitution Week celebrated by local chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On August 2, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into law the resolution that annually celebrated the Constitution during the week of September 17 to 23.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Lake Tahoe Chapter will honor the Constitution with a display in the South Lake Tahoe branch of the El Dorado library. It went up September 1 and will be there the entire month.

"The United States Constitution stands as a testament to the tenacity of Americans throughout history to maintain their liberties, freedoms and inalienable rights. Please come by the library to see the DAR's Constitution Week display," said Rosemary Manning of the local chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

During the South Lake Tahoe City Council on July 28, the City read into record a proclamation for Constitution Week:

City of South Lake Tahoe Proclamation
Recognizing September 17-23, 2020, as “Constitution Week”

Whereas, the Constitution of the United State of America, the guardian of
our liberties, embodies the principles of limited government in a republic
dedicated to rule by law; and

Whereas, September 17, 2020, marks the two hundred and thirty-third
anniversary of the framing of the Constitution of the United States of
America by the Constitutional Convention; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper to accord official recognition to this
magnificent document and its memorable anniversary; and

Whereas, Public Law 915 guarantees the issuing of a proclamation each
year by the President of the United States of America designating
September 17 through 23 as Constitution Week.

Now therefore, the City of South Lake Tahoe City Council, do hereby
proclaim the week of September 17 through 23 as “Constitution Week” and
ask our citizens to reaffirm the ideals the framers of the Constitution had in
1787 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this
guardian of our liberties.
