Changes on the South Shore: Edgewood's new lodge, new look

Editor's note: This is part of a series on all of the change going on in South Lake Tahoe. We'll be updating you with photos and news.

Ground won't break until May on the new Edgewood Tahoe Resort but the golf course is already undergoing major changes to prepare for the big project. Trees have been cleared, the 9th hole has been reconfigured and made into a par 3, and a 10 foot tall fence is being erected around the construction site.

The new pier has already been constructed and will allow guests to boat to the resort.

In preparation for the Lodge, Edgewood Companies put in numerous water quality and environmental improvements that will benefit the whole region. One of those projects is Edgewood Creek's being rerouted to it's natural state instead of going into a pipe at the 18th hole.

When the TRPA approved the project two years ago, County Supervisor Norma Santiago was chair of the agency's governing board. “The Edgewood Tahoe Lodge Project exemplifies how the private and public sectors can work together to accomplish great things,” she said.

American Century Golf Championships will still be held at Edgewood in 2015. According to Bryan Davis, Marketing Manager at Edgewood, new 8th and 9th holes will be ready for the celebrities. He said the fence around what was the former 9th hole will help cover up the construction area for both the visitors during the annual tournament and for brides and guests using the clubhouse.

Completion date for the Lodge is expected to be January of 2017.

On what is currently the parking lot south of the clubhouse will be the Lodge's swimming pool and grounds. Since most of the parking on site will be removed there will be a parking garage placed by the current entrance on Lake Parkway. At that time the entrance to Edgewood will be moved north.
