Lake 2o is returning to South Lake Tahoe; Law enforcement prepared

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The multi-day car show called Lake 2o caused numerous problems on the South Shore in August of 2020, and their next event coming up October 19-23 promises to be much tamer and controlled, according to organizers.

The estimated 300-400 cars that participated on the 2020 weekend caught everyone by surprise, from residents to law enforcement on both sides of the state line. It was a social media-organized group that took over parking lots, parking garages, and filled city streets, and participants rented numerous vacation rentals so the car activities went into neighborhoods.

The 2020 event was not permitted through the City. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) talked to event organizers to make sure it is not a repeat of the previous havoc. The multi-day event reached a boiling point when a MontBleu security guard was attacked, bringing multiple agencies to the casino.

SLTPD Sgt. Doug Sentell said the residents didn't appreciate their activities in 2020 and he passed on concerns to Lake 2o.

Sentell told them there will be plenty of law enforcement ready for the unconventional car show.

"We are not taking this lightly," said Sentell. He said the organizer pushed out the event to October in hopes that a younger group would not be attending and the weather would be cooler.

“We understand Tahoe is a place people want to escape during this time, but they have to be respectful of the place we call home,” said SLTPD Chief David Stevenson after the 2020 event.

There will be no city-authorized events during the 2022 event.

Lake 2o organizers made the following post on Instagram:

While we are beyond excited for this year's Lake20, we cannot reiterate the importance of being respectful to Lake Tahoe and its residents enough.

With that being said, there will be zero tolerance whatsoever for disruptive or disrespectful behavior this includes. but is not limited to revving, burnouts, drifting, littering, or racing. If you are seen or heard doing any of the following you will promptly be asked to leave and your information will be given to authorities.

If you notice anyone participating in such behavior, we encourage you all to please do the same Additional PD enforcement will be present. Let's all do our part by holding each other accountable. If not for your safety, then for the sake of future automotive gatherings.

Lake2o is NOT the time and Lake Tahoe is NOT the place for such behavior.

Please show your utmost respect to the area & community alike, AT ALL TIMES.

Let's give the car community a good name and promote the true meaning of Lake2o and why it was created in the first place: to create everlasting memories and friendships through a shared passion.
