Street Vibrations Bringing Motorcyclists to Area. 1 Killed, 4 Hurt in Tahoe and Carson Collisons

With thousands of motorcyclists expected for Street Vibrations there is extra caution urged on public roadways. As of noon today there have been 3 accidents involving bikers on the road in Lake Tahoe and Carson City, resulting in 1 death and 4 hospitalizations.

Two people were hospitalized after a crash shortly before 10 a.m. at North Carson Street and Medical Parkway. A man was flown by Care Flight to Renown hospital; the other person was taken by ambulance to Renown.

About 10:40 a.m., a vehicle pulled in front of a motorcycle at Research Way and College Parkway, Furlong said. Two riders were flown to Renown via Care Flight.

At South Lake Tahoe, a motorcycle rider was killed in a crash about 11 a.m. at U.S. Highway 50 at Johnson Pass and Echo Summit roads. All lanes of U.S. 50 were closed for a while.

“With all of the cautionary signs and public notice, it concerns me for the rest of the event,” Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said of the pair of accidents before noon on Street Vibrations weekend. He added, “I was told last night that some of the motorcyclists were concerned about Virginia City because they did get some snow flurries up there. It sounds like the riders moving from one location to another are doing well, but it’s where the heavy traffic is that we’re seeing problems.”

The Sheriff’s Office is urging drivers to pay attention to those riding to prevent crashes.

“This year’s celebration will have additional events being held in the downtown corridor as well as those held at Harley-Davidson,” Furlong said in a news release. “Please use extra caution and allow ample time to reach your destination.”
