South Lake Tahoe man dies after being struck by vehicle

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 65-year-old man died Friday night after being struck by a vehicle near Denny's on Lake Tahoe Boulevard. Just before 7:30 p.m. on September 28, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) received several calls about a pedestrian versus vehicle collision near the intersection of Lake Tahoe and Al Tahoe Boulevards.

Upon arrival they found an unresponsive man lying in the roadway in front of Denny's. South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue personnel arrived and pronounced the local man deceased at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and has been cooperative throughout the evening's investigation according to SLTPD Officer Traci Trapani.

Drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to have played a role in this tragedy.

At this time investigators have not yet determined if the victim was in a crosswalk at the time of the fatal collision, but early reports show that he was not. After interviewing witnesses, and examining evidence, preliminary information suggests that the male driver was traveling east-bound on Lake Tahoe Boulevard approaching Tulare Avenue/Al Tahoe Blvd., when a male pedestrian entered the roadway from an unknown direction of travel. The vehicle struck the pedestrian and immediately stopped.

Trapani said they are waiting to see if film from nearby businesses can show more details of the collision. There were multiple witnesses at the scene as well.

The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

This is an ongoing investigation and SLTPD will be conducting follow-up according to Trapani.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department encourages any witnesses with information regarding this collision to contact the dispatch center at (530) 542-6100 or Lake Tahoe Secret Witness to remain anonymous (530) 541-6800.
