SLT Council Candidate Daniel P. Browne, Jr.

South Tahoe Now reached out to all nine candidates for South Lake Tahoe City Council and provided the same list of questions to each one of them. Once a day their answers will be published in the order received.

Today's candidate is Daniel P. Browne, Jr.

Occupation: Veteran and Retired Businessman

How many years in SLT: 48 Years

1. Explain why you are running for City Council and what your qualifications are. I decided to run for City Council to bring Fiscal Responsibility back to Local Government. In the ear of Conid-19, as Businesses and Families are being FORCED to cut back in order to make ENDS MEET, so should the City.

2. There has been talk about making South Lake Tahoe a Charter City. Are you for or against this, and why? I don’t have ALL the FACTS, but when ALL the FACTS come to LIGHT, the PROS and CONS are brought forward, the Voters should ultimately decide.

3. How many council meetings have you attended (Remotely and in person) and participated in? What changes, if any, would you bring to the table on how meetings are run? Ideas for more public participation? Over these many years, MANY, on various ISSUES of the time. I firmly believe that Council Members should be able to RESPOND Directly to Citizens/Residents, (providing it doesn’t violate the Brown Act).

4. Are you for or against the US50 Revitalization Project, known as the Loop Road, and why? AGAINST. This Project serves only the NEEDS of the STATE of NEVADA, it’s NEW CONVENTION CENTER, it’s Casinos, at the EXPENSE to our EXISTING low income housing. Most ALL of the Families that would be DISPLACED are Multi-Generational and under Federal Law WOULD not Qualify for any NEW low-income housing.

5. What are your thoughts on the 56 Acre Parcel and what should be included? I am ALL for it, furthermore, I applaud the cooperation between the City and the County on this project.

6. Being on council takes a lot of cooperation and collaboration. Do you consider yourself a team player? How do you work with others that may not have the same vision as you? Please explain how your election to the council will help get things done in South Lake Tahoe. I am VERY much a Team Player when it comes to the NEEDS and WISHES of the Citizens/Residents of South Lake Tahoe. When MY vision differs with others, I need to WORK even harder for the NEEDS and BETTERMENT of ALL our Citizens/Residents for a BETTER South Lake Tahoe.

7, What is your top priority and why? In the era of COVID-19, the BUDGET. As Local Businesses and Families have to TIGHTEN and LIVE within a BUDGET, so should the CITY.

8. What do you see yourself accomplishing as one of five council members in your first six months? BUDGET Compliance, BUDGET Constraint, and NEW ways to RAISE the Cities Income, without, Impacting it Citizens/Residents.

9. South Lake Tahoe is very polarized right now. As a councilperson, what would you do to create a more cohesive and respectful community? DIALOGUE, DIALOGUE, DIALOGUE. A NEW COUNCIL, needs to Communicate MORE, EARLY, and OFTEN, to it’s Residents/Citizens, so as to keep them Informed.

10. Anything else you’d like to add? The CITY COUNCIL works at the pleasure of the CITIZENS of South Lake Tahoe, the NEEDS of the CITIZENS of South Lake Tahoe. No other PRIORITIES, NEED be Considered.
