Deadly head-on collision on Highway 50 near Kyburz

A Friday evening head-on collision near the town of Kyburz on Highway 50 claimed the life of one woman and sent four others to area hospitals.
At 5:44 p.m. October 16, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the accident 18 miles east of Pollock Pines. A woman was driving eastbound when, for unknown reasons, she crossed into the westbound lane and hit an SUV carrying four people.
The solo driver was killed. Her identity has not yet been released.
In the SUV that was hit, one person was taken to the hospital by helicopter and the other three were transported by ambulance. According to the CHP, their injuries range from minor to moderate.
Both lanes were closed until the accident was cleared and were reopened by 8:15 p.m.
