LTCC women's soccer team on top of national coaches poll for 4th straight week

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Community College's Women's Soccer team is on top of the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 NJCAA poll for Division III for the fourth consecutive week. On September 25 they rose to the top spot of the list and haven't left since then.

Fresno City College is currently in the second spot, a team they tied during a September 20 match-up, 1-1. The team the women lost too in last year's state final, Santiago Canyon College, dropped to the twelfth-ranked team.

There have only been three other California community college women's soccer teams to make it to the #1 spot on the nationwide poll since its inception in 2001: Santa Rosa in 2011, and Fresno and Folsom in 2017.

Both the men's and women's teams are at home Friday against Feather River. It is LTCC Fan Appreciation day too, with free food, swag, raffle, and giveaways. The men's team is on a 4-game win streak and their match starts at 2:00 p.m. The Lady Coyotes start at 4:00 p.m. The grill is going from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Snack Shack with hot dogs.

There are three divisions in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) with one main distinction - scholarships. Division I schools offer full athletic scholarships, Division II may grant athletic scholarships, but scholarships are limited to tuition, books, fees and up to $250 in course required supplies, Division III schools are not permitted to offer any athletic scholarships.
