Officer involved shooting leaves one man dead and two roads closed

10/30 Update: The shooting suspect from the officer involved shooting on October 29, 2018 has been positively identified as 34-year-old Billy Jo Johnson of Gardnerville, Nev.

Next of kin notifications have been completed.

This is still an active investigation and no further information is available at this time.

7:15 p.m. update - The suspect who died after the pursuit had a felony warrant for arrest for a PC 211, Robbery with a Firearm.

Both roads are still closed for the investigation and will most likely be closed for much of the night.

3:50 p.m. update Monday, 10/29/18 - Expect North Upper Truckee Road to be closed from Highway 50 to West San Bernardino for several hours as investigators work at the scene of an officer-involved shooting.

At approximately 1:00 p.m., detectives from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department became involved in a pursuit of a motorcycle according to El Dorado County Sheriff's Sgt. Anthony Prencipe.

Details are still being worked out, but from the early investigation, Prencipe said there were shots fired at the SLTPD detectives on SR89 near Luther Pass. They pursued the motorcyclist and were joined by other law enforcement officers as the chase led them into El Dorado County and through the intersection with Highway 50, They then headed west to North Upper Truckee Road.

At that spot the motorcyclist was shot by SLTPD officers. Medical attention was given to the driver but he died at the scene.

The area is still surrounded by crime scene tape and Prencipe said it could be hours until it reopens.

Also closed in SR89 at the scene of the initial shots. Motorists are not allowed between South Upper Truckee Road and Pickett's Junction.

Name, age and hometown of the deceased will not be released until next-of-kin is notified.

El Dorado County Sheriff's Office is conducting the investigation. Once more details are available we will update this story.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. There is a heavy law enforcement presence in Meyers as multiple agencies have responded to a shooting.

What we do know:

As of 1:45 p.m. State Route 89 from Luther Pass is closed and North Upper Truckee is closed from Highway 50 to Otomites.

An El Dorado County Sheriff's Office deputy said the shooting was officer-involved.

At this time no other details are available and we will be at the scene awaiting more information.
