Change in store for Lake Tahoe Unified School District Trustees

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Board of Trustees will have a change December 15 with a changing of the guard on the Area 4
seat. Trustee Troy Matthews decided to not run for reelection so he could spend more time with his family which includes a new baby girl.

Matthews joined the board in 2017 and helped guide LTUSD through the hiring of the new superintendent and serving during some challenging times. He said his favorite memories while on the board was when he was standing on the graduation stage, sending off the next generation to change the world. He served as the Clerk of the Board over the past year.

As the sole candidate to fill Matthew's seat, Valerie Mansfield did not have to appear on the ballot November 3.

Mansfield is a recently retired teacher from Sierra House Elementary where she taught from 1988 until 2020. Growing up, she spent summers at Fallen Leaf Lake and became a permanent resident of South Lake Tahoe in 1984. During her 22-year career as a teacher, and as a mother of three children, she volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School leader, Brownie and Girl Scout leader, baseball coach, and many other endeavors in support of her kids and the community. At Sierra House Elementary, she served as the Choir Director, Weather Kids Coordinator, Spelling Bee Coach, and Ukulele leader. Valerie has always been a child advocate, believing that every single child deserves the opportunities for an excellent education and a bright future.

She will take her Oath of Office on December 15 during the LTUSD Board meeting.
