Heavenly Village tenants buy turkeys for Christmas Cheer families

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It started with a chat a few weeks ago between Tom Davis of the Christmas Cheer Board and Dreu Murin of the Heavenly Village. Tom had told Dreu there was a need for turkeys this holiday season in the South Lake Tahoe community.

Dreu then spoke with Gary Casteel Jr., owner of the Heavenly Village, and a plan for a Village Turkey Drive formed.

There was an overwhelming response from the shops and restaurants that call the Heavenly Village home and not only they donate one turkey but, multiple turkeys were donated. Twelve turkeys were donated by Lauren with Azul Latin Kitchen and 40 turkeys from Jana at the Heavenly Cinemas, and many more are jumping in to help the cause daily. Casteel then jumped in and donated 50 turkeys to the cause.

“I am so proud so proud of the Heavenly Village to support the multiple families in need for the holidays," said Casteel. "We love to support the community and great organizations like Christmas Cheer and encourage others to give when they can."

A delivery van full of turkeys is now full and ready for families at Christmas Cheer.

“Giving back is a giant piece of what we do in the Village and this is just one of the many events that we do throughout the year to give back to the community,” said Murin. "Over the course of the year, we give thousands of dollars to different charities and have helped many families directly.”

"We are always in need in the community and for the Heavenly Village to come through to this level blew our minds," said Davis. “We are so thankful for folks like Dreu and Gary, this is the most turkeys we have ever been given and will make such a huge difference in so many families lives."
