Widespread power outage in South Lake Tahoe and Douglas County

9:30 a.m.: Liberty Utilities is reporting all customers in South Lake Tahoe have had their power restored.

8:30 a.m.: At approximately 5:00 AM a widespread power outage impacted a wide range of Douglas County, South Lake Tahoe, Meyers, and Woodfords/Markleeville. The problem appears to be caused by equipment failure at the Buckeye Transfer Station in Douglas County. East Fork Fire Units responded to the fire in the equipment area and NV Energy is working on the damage. At this time NV Energy reports customers should be restored by 10:45 a.m. while South Lake Tahoe is seeing energizing of power lines.

8:20 a.m.: Some areas of South Lake Tahoe are reporting their power has been restored.

7:21 a.m.: Douglas County schools are open and busses are running. Lake Tahoe Unified and Lake Tahoe Community College are on holiday break. LTCC is on a delayed opening until 10 a.m. and will reassess at that time. This delay affects staff only.

Boys and Girls Club is on a 2-hour delay.

7:10 a.m. Update: Liberty Utilities estimates power will be restored by 7:44 a.m. and NV Energy says 10:45 a.m.

The power outage is from Emerald Bay to Markleeville and much of Douglas County. A transformer is said to be the cause.
