Weidinger PR wins multiple honors at annual awards event

Lake Tahoe-based Weidinger Public Relations was recognized with three awards for 2017 campaigns at the Public Relations Society of America, Sierra Nevada Chapter Silver Spikes Awards, Nov. 16 at The Grove in Reno, Nev.

Weidinger PR received honors for three entries: one Silver Spike and two Awards of Excellence. The firm’s public relations efforts for the 2017 American Century Championship captured the Silver Spike for “Special Events and Observances.”

The Silver Spike is the highest honor from the Chapter and identifies outstanding achievement, far-reaching client results, and high standards for quality of work and ethics. WPR also garnered Awards of Excellence for the Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe Grand Opening, and for the Gene Upshaw Memorial Golf Classic. The designations celebrate northern Nevada’s best communications practices and professionals of 2017.

Efforts on behalf of the American Century Championship with partner Vizion Group of Philadelphia for the golf tournament’s 28th year earned top honors in its category by increasing record attendance by 16 percent, and generating extensive national, regional and local media coverage with strategic leveraging of news of the day and celebrity talent. Creative social media initiatives resulted in exponential growth with more than 192,000,000 impressions and 250,000 interactions.

An Award of Excellence was earned for the 2017 Gene Upshaw Memorial Golf Classic for the firm’s involvement in the conceptualization and production of “Highway 63: The Legacy of Gene Upshaw.” The television special aired nationally on NFL Network detailing Upshaw’s life and work and the causes supported by the Gene Upshaw Memorial Fund and Golf Classic toward cancer and mild traumatic brain injury research. It expanded the event’s reputation and mission and introduced it to potential donors.

An Award of Excellence was also secured for media efforts on the grand opening of the Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe as America’s next great luxury resort of the West. Tactics resulted in media coverage reaching an audience of 147 million and an ROI of more than 100 times the PR investment. The AP story “New Lake Tahoe Lodge Praised as Boon to Economy, Environment” was picked up by 137 outlets and major national markets.

“Great clients who entrust us, and a talented and dedicated staff with a desire to perform consistently exceptional work allow us to follow our mantra, ‘Promoting the serious business of fun,’” said Phil Weidinger. “We’re passionate about our work and these designations reinforce that desire.”
