Snow and Cold Temps to Hit South Lake Tahoe This Week

A blast of winter is headed to South Lake Tahoe on Tuesday as a winter system from the Northwest hits the region. A strong cold front will move through the Sierra and Western Nevada late Monday night into Tuesday.

Strong wind gusts up to 50 mph will result as the front band of the storm passes by on Monday night. The winds will be accompanied by precipitation which will begin as rain up to 6,000 feet but quickly changes to snow. Snow levels will lower to the Carson Valley floor Tuesday morning. 1" to 2" of snow due in the valley with up to 4" in the Sierra. Snow may continue through Tuesday.

Behind the front will be very cold temperatures with South Lake Tahoe seeing highs in the 20s and lows in single digits.
