SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Frank A. Rush, Jr. is now officially the city manager for South Lake Tahoe.
Rush was sworn in on Wednesday, December 6, 2018
For the past 17 years Rush has been the city manager for the city of Emerald Isle in North Carolina. He and his wife of 20 years, Suzanne, moved to the South Shore with their two teenage sons, Jacob and Matthew.
“I am excited to join the team at the City of South Lake Tahoe, and look forward to working with the City Council, City employees, and the community to move South Lake Tahoe forward in the coming years,” said Rush., “It’s a truly exceptional place, and we will all be working hard to enhance the already high quality of life for our residents, visitors and businesses.”
Rush has 25 years of local government experience in North Carolina and is known for his commitment to public service, public communications efforts, emphasis on customer service, creative and prudent financial management, and successful quality of life initiatives.
During his time in North Carolina, he saw Emerald Isle through a period of sustained growth, completion of numerous capital initiatives, and its evolution as a premier oceanfront resort community. He also faced a number of challenges, including the great recession, Hurricanes Ophelia and Irene, and Hurricane Florence just a few months ago.
“I am excited for new opportunities and new challenges in South Lake Tahoe, and I am anxious to get started,” Rush said.
Rush will oversee an organization with almost 200 employees and an annual General Fund budget of more than $40 million. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Environmental Studies from the State University of New York at Binghamton, and a Master of Public Administration degree from North Carolina State University.
Coming from Emerald Isle, with similar community dynamics, he’s uniquely suited to handle the challenges here in South Lake Tahoe. He says his priorities here are clear.
“I will be working hard to advance the City Council’s priorities, with an emphasis on public communications and responsive customer service. I will be seeking to build productive relationships with the community, promote a strong and vibrant local economy, and build trust in the City government,” Rush said.
