Body of man caught in Mt. Rose avalanche recovered

3:00 p.m. update 12/11/16: Search crews at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe recovered a body believed to be that of the missing skier who had been caught in an avalanche at the resort on Saturday.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) reports that the man was found by searchers at 1:00 p.m. Sunday.

Bob Harmon, spokesman for WCSO, said the body was found in about 10-feet of snow.

The unidentified victim, a 60-year-old man, was skiing with another man on Jack Pot Run when they were caught in an avalanche. The second skier made it out and called 911. It has been reported that the run was closed at the time the men went missing.

The search on Saturday was called off at 5:00 p.m. due to hazardous conditions and resumed at 9:15 a.m. Sunday.

The victim's name has not been released.

A 60-year-old skier is still missing Saturday night after being caught in an avalanche at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe earlier in the day.

According to the Washoe County Sheriff's office, the skier was in a closed area around 10:15 a.m. when he was caught in an avalanche. Searchers from multiple agencies responded immediately and searched until they were called back at 2:00 p.m. so Mt. Rose personnel could do some additional avalanche mitigation.

The search was suspended for the evening at 5:00 p.m. due to safety concerns.

"That's a safety decision for our searchers," said Bob Harmon of the Washoe County Sheriff's Office. "We've got one person missing out there in the snow, we certainly don't want to add to that.

"Our command staff is keeping a close eye on the weather conditions and the conditions on the ground as the search is taking place and we are going to keep the safety of our searchers as a priority right now."

Crews plan to resume the search Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m.

This is a developing story.
