Man dies while snowboarding at Sierra-at-Tahoe

A 23-year-old snowboarder died on Thursday while boarding on an intermediate trail at Sierra-at-Tahoe.
According to witnesses, the unidentified man lost control as he was heading down the Lower Snowshoe trail. He fell, then slide at a high rate of speed and collided with a fence at about 1:15 p.m.
He was not wearing a helmet.
The resort's ski patrol staff immediately responded to the scene near where Sugar N' Spice meets Snowshoe. They requested both air and ground emergency medical services, said Thea Hardy, Sierra-at-Tahoe's Communications Manager.
It is unknown if he died at the scene or once turned over to paramedics. The death is being investigated by the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office. They have not responded yet to questions about the case. This story will be updated when more information is made available.
