SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The California Highway Patrol (CHP) escorted a wide-load road truck and semi-trailer that were carrying an unusual cargo, a F-14 Tomcat. CHP picked up the escort at the Nevada-California state line on SR-88, helped it over Luther Pass on SR-89 and then to US-50 with a destination of the Lake Tahoe Airport.
When at the airport it was lifted off the truck, over trees and down to the tarmac.
There is speculation in the community that this jet will be used in the filming of Top Gun 2: Maverick but those in authority cannot confirm that.
Shooting for a movie by Paramount Studios has been taking place at a few locations around South Lake Tahoe including Washoe Meadows State Park and U.S. Forest Service areas south of Pioneer Trail.
City and film commission contacts have not been able to confirm what movie is being filmed on the South Shore.
