South Lake Tahoe has new mayor and mayor pro tem

In their annual reorganization, the South Lake Tahoe City Council has voted in a new mayor and mayor pro tem for the year 2018.

Wendy David returns as mayor, a position she held in 2016. She was mayor pro tem during 2017.

Tom Davis returns as vice mayor for the fifth time.

"I want to thank the Council for your support," said Mayor David. "I want to look at how we want to move forward and focus on community conversation. It's what brings us together. Community conversation is the most important thing we'll do next year."

In 2018, David said the focus will be on housing, the SLT Recreation Center and cannabis. The voters approved a rise in Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) to fund the new recreation center and the City will have too look at what they can afford with sustainable taxes generated from vacation home rentals (VHRs) and motel rooms. Housing will continue to be on the forefront of Council action and the Council will have to what legal cannabis will look like in the South Lake Tahoe community.

David also promised a monthly column shared by all members of the Council on topics they want to cover, instead of just from the mayor as was the case in 2017.
Another item on her agenda will be to have community council coffees each month.

"I believe in collaboration and the way to get things done is to collaborate and talk," added Mayor David.

The two positions are elected by the city council annually. The public votes for the five councilmembers.
