Santa Rosa man dies while skiing at Heavenly Mountain Resort

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - Heavenly Mountain Resort has confirmed a Santa Rosa, California man died while at the resort on Wednesday, December 27, 2017.

The unidentified 49-year-old man was on a beginner run near the Poma Trail.

“Heavenly Mountain Resort, Heavenly Ski Patrol, and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our guest’s family and friends,” said Mike Goar, vice president of mountain division and chief operating officer of Heavenly Mountain Resort.

Heavenly's Ski Patrol responded to the medical incident and were joined by Lake Valley Fire Protection District personnel. The rescuers applied CPR for 30 minutes according to emergency personnel at the scene. South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue was also at the scene and said it was a "complicated technical traumatic full arrest."

A Care Flight medical helicopter arrived but was not needed.

The man was pronounced deceased by the El Dorado County Sheriff-Corner

A woman trying to render aid suffered an ankle injury and was transported to Barton Memorial Hospital.
