Fans of electronic music flock to South Lake Tahoe for the annual SnowGlobe outdoor music festival held December 29-31. The predominately under-30 crowd come from colleges and communities hundreds and even thousands of miles away to enjoy a specially gathered group of top artists in the electronic dance music (EDM) field. An estimated 15,000 tickets have been sold for the three-day event which is held on the South Lake Tahoe community's newly created ball fields.

Along with the fun though comes issues common at most music festivals: noise, trash, drinking and illegal drugs.

On behalf of the organizers of the Lake Tahoe Virtual Race, I would like to thank Lake Tahoe community members and businesses as well as Barton Health employees and physicians for their incredible generosity.

Barton Health recently hosted the first Virtual Race Challenge. Racers walked and ran for 72 days and recorded their mileage on a 72 mile digital map of Lake Tahoe. Together, with their financial contributors, the racers raised $4,044 in donations to help expand Barton Health’s Cancer Wellness Program.

2:45 p.m. - Driving on a suspended license - Highway 50 - INITIATED A VEHICLE STOP FOR A TRAFFIC INFRACTION. 33-YEAR-OLD MALE DRIVER WAS SUBSEQUENTLY ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO THE COUNTY JAIL.

The students at Mt. Tallac High School in South Lake Tahoe have learned how to give back to others in their community, and not in the normal food and money drive way.

What started last year with a rap song to raise funds for Christmas Cheer and now morphed into an annual project where more students can be involved in making a community-wide impact.

"As a school we chose people and organizations to give to," said school Principal Holly Greenough. "Since most of our students don't have the means to donate food and money we showed alternative ways they can give back."

Our community needs the temporary shelter that the Warm Room provides – not just for those homeless guests who use it, but for everybody else, too. Dickens’ Ebenezer Scrooge could tell you why.

Outgoing South Lake Tahoe City Councilwoman JoAnn Conner was honored for her four years of service to the community during a special Council meeting Monday. She was awarded a plaque, but didn't leave her former position without a few words to say.

Conner's term was not a quiet one. As she said she "fought for the little people," Conner also filed a lawsuit against the City and was censured by her colleagues.

As she spoke to the small group gathered in Chambers to bid farewell, Conner said she would continue to fight for the those that can't fight themselves.

The Incredible Kids Program in Douglas County provides youth with gym membership scholarships, and thanks to a donation by Intero Real Estate Services of Gardnerville, Nev., many more will be able to use the service.

The real estate group presented a check in the amount of $8,200 to the fund representatives, Renea Louie, Scott Morgan and Drew Aguilar of Douglas County Community Services Foundation, along with Douglas County Community Services/Parks and Recreation staff accepted the donation.

It's time once again for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League's annual See's Candy Store. Starting December 1, and going until December 24 if supplies last, the community can stop by their shop at the "Y" and help the non-profit group raise the funds needed to help local residents with cancer.

Seven-days-a-week the Cancer League will have their candy store open from noon to 5:00 p.m. in a previously vacant shop next to Beachhut Deli, just a few doors down from Starbucks in the Raley's/KMart center.

An “awesome group” from Kirkwood Mountain Resort’s Food and Beverage department was on hand on Monday, November 7 to donate their time at Kirkwood’s Adopt A Day Sponsorship.

“We want to start off by thanking Bread & Broth for giving us the opportunity of giving back to the community,” wrote Jamie Welch on behalf of her fellow sponsor crew members. “While some of us are from out of town, we appreciate the hospitality Lake Tahoe’s community members have shown us. Construction on the new three mile shared-use path from Incline Village to Sand Harbor has ended for the season.

During this year's phase one, crews built an underpass beneath the highway to bring the upcoming shared use path from the east to west side of the road near the Flume Trail. In addition, work began on the three new parking areas located near the Ponderosa Ranch and Tunnel Creek Café that will provide safer options for the one million recreationists who visit the area each year. This year’s efforts also included the relocation of a sewer (effluent) pipe near Hidden Beach.

A special meeting dedicated solely discussion of the future of the Lake Tahoe Community College's Theatre Arts Program will be held by the school's Board of Trustees on Tuesday, November 29 at 6:00 p.m. in their board room.

The current crime and police officer staffing statistics in City of South Lake Tahoe is consistent with the State of California as a whole. Most of the crimes for which the Safe Neighborhood and Schools Act have mandated a reduction in criminal penalties have increased in our city. Also consistent with state-wide statistics is the reduction in numbers of South Lake Tahoe police officers available to address local crime.

A former member of both the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors and California State Assembly has been named the interim director of the El Dorado County Community Development Agency.

At the BOS meeting Tuesday, Roger Niello was appointed to fill the spot vacated when Steve Pedretti left the position for Placer County.

Niello begins his job November 2.

Before he went into public service, Niello managed the Niello Auto Group for
25 years until 1999.

Having served under many different school boards in my forty-two years of teaching in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District, I know the importance of a dedicated, well-informed group of individuals who work cooperatively for the betterment of all the students and employees of the district.

I support Larry Reilly because he is dedicated to education as evidenced by his thirty-nine years as an outstanding teacher. He is well-informed as to the changing laws and regulations governing education. His years as an athletic coach attest to the fact that he knows the importance of team work.

For the past several years, after busy and fun summer seasons, Camp Richardson Resort has been hosting Bread & Broth Adopt A Day dinners and helping disadvantaged members of our community.

“We are always grateful to be a part of Adopt A Day and St. Theresa Bread & Broth,” said Vanessa Santora. Vanessa has been coordinating and arranging Camp Rich’s AADs and she has been a wonderful supporter and volunteer at B&B dinners.

South Shore resident Rosie Parker is fighting esophageal cancer, and a Lake Tahoe benefit concert is being held to help her and her family with growing expenses on Friday, October 21 from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. at Cold Water Brewery.

“We are showing our love, we are showing our support for Rose,” said Cold Water owner Debbie Brown, “Our brewmaster’s wife was diagnosed with esophageal cancer back in August, and she is fighting the fight of her life.”

Housing, or lack thereof, has been a hot topic in recent years in South Lake Tahoe and the surrounding South Shore communities. A recent town hall forum on housing issues was recently held, and there will soon be a housing task force organized by El Dorado County Supervisor Sue Novasel.

During the supervisor's October 25 meeting, Novasel is asking for $15,000 to engage a consultant to lead task force members through six sessions addressing the problem.
