Reno Gazette Journal files lawsuit against Sparks over pot business licenses
Submitted by paula on Sat, 09/19/2015 - 10:05pmThe Reno Gazette-Journal filed a lawsuit Friday against the city of Sparks in an effort to compel them to release the names of medical marijuana business licensees.
As the newspaper expands its coverage of Nevada’s burgeoning medical marijuana industry, the RGJ has requested and collected copies of current business licenses for cultivation centers, dispensaries and production facilities in the area. Reno and Washoe County both have policies to release all of the information that the licenses entail.

On Thursday, September 10, a man who lives in the 2400 block of William Avenue called police to report his car stolen. When police arrived, they found out the man had lent the car to someone who hadn't returned it.
The following day, a white Ford F250 with a rack was reported stolen in the 1000 block of William. It has not been recovered and there are no suspects. The Nevada license plate number is NRC917.
Three cars were stolen on Saturday, September 12.
Changes in store for South Lake Tahoe businesses

"There is a lot we can be proud of," Kerry said.
The budget process has been ongoing since May, involving staff in making the decision on where to cut back, and where to spend.

El Dorado County schools chief apologizes for DUI
Submitted by paula on Tue, 08/25/2015 - 9:41pmEl Dorado County Superintendent of Schools Jeremy Meyers was booked and released from El Dorado County Jail on Saturday, a condition of his sentencing for driving under the influence in June.
Meyers’ attorney, Paul Zappettini, said Meyers was cited June 9 for driving under the influence of alcohol. He appeared in court Aug. 10 and received a five-day alternative sentence, which was served as house arrest, Zappettini said. He also was fined and faces suspension of his driver’s license. As a condition of his sentence, Meyers also was required to be booked at the El Dorado County jail.

CHP holding DUI checkpoint in South Lake Tahoe Friday
Submitted by paula on Tue, 08/11/2015 - 7:49pmThe California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be holding a sobriety checkpoint somewhere in the eastern portion of El Dorado County on Friday, August 14 between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m.
A team of CHP officers will be staffing the checkpoint. They will control traffic at the checkpoint to evaluate driver’s sobriety and hand out literature warning of the dangers of drinking and driving. Driver license checks will be conducted and appropriate enforcement action will be taken.
Six ways Burning Man will be different this year

Submitted by paula on Fri, 08/07/2015 - 2:48pmTwo from South Lake Tahoe were arrested Thursday on felony drug trafficking and other charges after a traffic stop led to the discovery of methamphetamine and heroin, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Elizabeth Gosh, 30, and Kyle Leake, 48, were taken into custody at 7:04 p.m. and booked into Carson City Jail. According to the arrest report, deputies with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team were patrolling in an unmarked car and observed a white two door sedan with California plates run through a solid red strop light at the intersection of Roop and Long streets.
New South Lake Tahoe VHR ordinance goes into effect October 1
Submitted by paula on Tue, 08/04/2015 - 9:05pmA new vacation home rental (VHR) ordinance will take effect in South Lake Tahoe on October 1, 2015.
The new ordinance will require all homeowners who want to rent out their homes to get it inspected by the Zoning Administrator prior to being issued a license. Since the real estate community told City Council that not having a permit prior to escrow may cause homeowners to lose sales, the current homeowner may now get it inspected prior to the sale in order to take as much uncertainty away from sales as possible. This inspection will be valid for one year.

According to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO), on Sunday, July 26, at 7:45 p.m., a resident of Meyers witnessed a car full of men pull up to the stop sign at the intersection of East San Bernardino Avenue and Apache Drive. He told deputies he saw them roll down a window and shoot what he thought a gun at the sign.

City Council addresses craft shows and outdoor displays
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/22/2015 - 9:08pmThe South Lake Tahoe City Council narrowly approved a new temporary craft show ordinance and increased fee schedule during their meeting on Tuesday.
"Seems like overkill," said Councilwoman JoAnn Conner in her vote against the ordinance. "Its a tremendous amount of work for anyone who wants to come in and do an event and its a tremendous amount of work for staff."
Conner was speaking of the new ordinance which changes the rules for the eight temporary craft shows held annually in the city each year. She and Tom Davis were the two dissenting votes.

Standoff at the Tahoe Keys Marina ends with arrest of suspect

More details of Saturday's arrest have been released by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.
As the pursuit of a car driven by 35-year-old Cory Pearson of Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe ended at the Tahoe Keys Marina, officers were able to establish a perimeter around his vehicle which had been reported stolen in Lakeland Village. Pearson yelled to officers that he was armed with a gun and threatened to use it if anyone approached. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) SWAT Team and Crisis Response Team were called to assist.

AB266 merges what were two competing bills and attempts to set up state regulations that will pass muster with the federal Department of Justice. It was one of dozens of pieces of legislation advancing through the Legislature Thursday as lawmakers faced a Friday deadline to move bills out of their house of origin.

Military deserter accused of sexual assault arrested in Reno

At approximately 9:45 p.m. on June 8, Sergeant Mike Edgell of the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) pulled over a black 2011 Yamaha motorcycle for not having an operating tail lamp.

Counterfeit bills on rise in El Dorado County; One arrest made
Submitted by paula on Mon, 05/18/2015 - 7:19pmSeveral counterfeit bills have been used for transactions on the west slope of El Dorado County, even days after the arrest of one suspect. On May 8, the Sheriff Deputies were called to the Round Table Restaurant in Pollock Pines after a man tried to buy food with a counterfeit $100 bill. He and a woman left before deputies arrived but a description of the pair and their vehicle was provided to EDCSO.
