Three South Lake Tahoe businesses sell alcohol to minors during sting

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department cited three clerks for selling alcohol to minors during a minor decoy operation on Saturday, May 2.

Clerks at Beverages and More (BevMo), CVS in Bijou, and Safeway all sold the minor alcohol. One unidentified store did not sell the decoy alcohol.

A 24-year-old employee at BevMo, a 21-year-old employee at Safeway and a 35-year-old employee at CVS were all cited. At each store, the employees involved were women.

Local businesses invited to SLT Police Department's ABC training

All local business owners with an ABC license are invited to bring their employees to a free seminar presented by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) on Thursday, May 28 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Hosted by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, the LEAD (Licenses Education on Alcohol and Drugs) seminar will provide information on what is acceptable I.D., the best way to check I.D., how to refuse service, signs and prevention of illicit drug activity, and more.

'Border Blitz' sting nets unlicensed contractors on South Shore

A simultaneous sting operation between the California State License Board and the Nevada Contractors License Board snared 5 people on the California side of South Lake Tahoe and 12 on the Nevada side on April 27, 2015.

This was the 4th annual Border Blitz which targets unlicensed contractors who operate illegally under California and Nevada laws.

The one day operation took place at a house near Pioneer Trail and a condominium in Stateline, NV.

Unpaid traffic fines and mushrooming fees have left 4.2 million Californians with suspended driver’s licenses — more than one-sixth of the licenses issued statewide — with poor people the hardest-hit, according to a newly published study that criticizes policies that take drivers off the road because of debts they can’t pay.

Ban on coyote hunting contests rejected

A proposal to ban coyote hunting contests in Nevada was rejected Friday by state wildlife officials.

After hearing from some 50 people for and against the idea, the Nevada Wildlife Commission voted 7-1 to deny a petition sought to end a controversial practice that gives cash or other awards to hunters who kill the most coyotes during so-called “coyote call” events.

City to spend $200,000 to evaluate maintenance needs

You will soon be seeing this state of the art, high tech van traveling through the streets of South Lake Tahoe. Equiped with lasers, GPS, digital measuring tools and cameras, the van will be able to record the conditions of the city's infrastructure, thus allowing the gathered data to be evaluated to priorizie all maintenance.

Nationally it is estimated that there are $2 trillion of backlog mainenance to roads and other items in the infrastruce of cities and counties. Locally the number is estimated at $26 million.

Habitual DUI offender convicted in El Dorado County Court

The El Dorado County District Attorney's office announced the felony DUI conviction of six time offender Michael Ramirez. The 44-year old was convicted of two counts of felony driving under the influence and three counts of driving on a suspended license on February 26 in Placerville.

Ramirez had four prior DUI convictions, one of which was a felony, as well as two prior prison terms within the past 10 years.

He is currently in the EL Dorado County Jail in Placerville awaiting his April 6 sentencing.

Large numbers applying for California Driver's Licenses under AB60

California is experiencing just what Nevada and states who have issued first time driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants, long lines and large numbers of applicants. In the first month, over 236,000 people have applied statewide under AB60.

California AB60allows for the immigrants to apply for a license even though they don't have the normally required identification.

Dog licenses and other El Dorado County fees can soon be paid on line

Dog owners in El Dorado County will soon be able to renew their dog's license on line as well as pay for other services provided by the county's Heath and Human Services Agency (HHSA).

Over the next six months, residents will be able to pay on line with credit or debit cards as well the current option of paying with a check, by mail or in person.

"Many residents have told us they'd like the ability to pay online or by credit or debit card, and we are happy that we can now make those options available to them," said Karen Coleman, Program Manager at HHSA.

Purchase a Lake Tahoe license plate and ski or ride for free

You can now buy either a California or Nevada license plate and help raise money for Lake Tahoe environmental efforts.

The Tahoe Fund is working with the California Tahoe Conservancy and Nevada State Lands to promote the sale of their Lake Tahoe license plates. Between now and April 5, 2015, receive two free alpine or nordic tickets to the resort of your choice when you purchase the special plates.

NHP update on Incline Village New Year's Day fatal crash

Hug Soto-Barrios has been identified as the victim in the New Year's Day fatal accident on the Mt. Rose Hwy in Incline Village, NV. The 40-year old was a passenger in a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo driven by 34-year old Manuel Mejia-Verduzco.

With the passing of AB 60 in California a large group of new applicants for driver's licenses is expected, and with that a new group of scams targeting an unsuspecting population.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has issued a warning to customers that they need to watch for scams involving the application process.

Names of businesses caught selling alcohol to minors released

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department released the names of the businesses who sold alcohol to minors during last week's project Minor Decoy.

Minors working with the department attempted to purchase alcohol from 33 South Lake Tahoe businesses but were only successful in two of them.

A 32 year old clerk at Alpine Liquors, located at 1950 Lake Tahoe Blvd, was cited for selling alcohol to a minor as was a 32 year old employee at Chevy’s Restaurant, located at 3678 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

The City Council is soliciting applications for two-year appointments to the following City Commissions/Boards; Airport Land Use Commission, Building/ADA Board of Appeals, Parks & Recreation Commission and Planning Commission.

First meeting today for new South Lake Tahoe City Council

New South Lake Tahoe City Council members Wendy David and Austin Sass will join Hal Cole, Tom Davis and JoAnn Conner today as they begin their official first day of service after being sworn in this morning.

The 9 a.m. meeting begins with an inaugural ceremony and election on who will be the next Mayor of the city and the Mayor Pro Tem for 2015.

Minors helping the South Lake Tahoe Police Department were able to buy alcohol at two local businesses on December 5, resulting in citations and fines for the clerks.

The participants of "Minor Decoy" tried to purchase alcohol from 33 licensees in the city.

Nevada unveils "Share the Road" license plate to support cyclists and pedestrians

A specialty Nevada license plate supporting safe bicycle and pedestrian programs is now available for purchase through the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles.
