Douglas authorities seek help in Carson Valley burglaries
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 09/25/2012 - 4:19pmTwo commercial burglaries early Monday morning in Douglas County have authorities asking the public for help in identifying the suspects with photos provided by surveillance cameras.
The first burglary occurred at the Verizon Wireless Outlet Store on Waterloo Lane sometime around 5 a.m. Entry was made by the suspect smashing the glass of the exterior window of the store. Two cellular telephones, phone chargers and miscellaneous currency were stolen from inside. Click on images to enlarge.

Democrats Continue To Outpace Republicans In Nevada Voter Registration
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 09/18/2012 - 2:16pmCARSON CITY — Democrats continue to out-register their Republican counterparts, with the latest data from Clark County now showing a more than 100,000 voter advantage as the deadline to participate in the Nov. 6 general election draws ever closer.
Today just before noon the Clark County website, which updates registration totals regularly, showed 346,703 Democrats registered to vote compared to 246,479 for Republicans, a 100,224 advantage.

Lam Watah trailhead parking at Stateline closed through mid-October
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 09/11/2012 - 3:23pmThe Tahoe Transportation District and the U.S. Forest Service are asking the public to park in alternate locations to access the Lam Watah Trail while work is underway on improvements that are part of the Nevada Stateline-to-Stateline Bike Path project - Phase 1B. Lam Watah Trailhead parking normally is located on the north side of U.S. Highway 50 just past the casinos in Stateline, Nev., on Kahle Drive.
Douglas County adds online voter registration option; now aligned with all Nevada counties

Saturday is Free Fishing Day in California
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 09/07/2012 - 4:02amAs I noted earlier this year, one of California’s two Free Fishing Days will be on Sept. 8. The other Free Fishing Day was way back on July 7. You can fish, all day, without a fishing license on Saturday.
You will be able to fish wherever you like in California, without the need for a fishing license.

“Over 96 percent of fees help support projects like the Lake Tahoe Water Trail and access to beaches like this,” says Wild, standing on the beach at Watermans Landing. “I train on the lake every day. Tahoe is a treasure, and I have a Tahoe plate to show my love for this magical place.”

Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, which cares for and rehabilitates sick and injured animals, is having its open house today, Sunday, August 5, from 10 am to 4 p.m.
Tom Millham of the center reports having eagles, bears, bobcats, raccoons and a river otter, plus more to see. The Millhams also want to show off its new expanded Bear TV video operation which has nine cameras looking in at all of the wildlife.
Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care will also have retail items for sale as well, including t-shirts, hats, jackets and its new 'metal' LTWC license plate holders.

Hobart Reservoir to open for 2012 fishing season
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 04/23/2012 - 7:47amHobart Reservoir, a small, high-mountain reservoir, located at an elevation of 7,600 feet in the mountains between Carson City and Lake Tahoe, will open for the 2012 fishing season on May 1.
Because of its high elevation and location, this reservoir is normally covered with ice, and surrounded by deep snow drifts, when it opens on May 01.
However, this year is entirely different, ice and snow-wise. It will remain open to fishing through September 30.

Secretary of State Ross Miller has been trying to get the regulation approved for several months, but has seen the regulation stymied by strong opposition from some Nevada residents and Republican lawmakers who argued the regulation exceeded his authority.
Tahoe resorts, business outfit vehicle fleets with Lake Tahoe license plate

Heavenly Ski Resort helped launch the program in 1996 and has 140 vehicles plated for Tahoe. Northstar Resort, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, and Tahoe Dave’s Skis and Boards have ordered new Tahoe plates.

Nevada’s Legislative Commission of the Department of Motor Vehicles approved regulations allowing the testing of driverless — a.k.a. “autonomous” — vehicles to be driven on the state’s roads, according to an announcement on Feb. 15.

The armed robbery happened at about 8:45 p.m., with the suspect, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark mask and gloves, getting inside a gray four-door sedan with dark-tinted windows, possibly and Audi or a Volkswagon Jetta. It is believed a second person was in the vehicle and served as the driver, said Douglas County Sgt. Jim Halsey. The clerk was unhurt.

Tahoe License Plate for Powder Program To Benefit from Snow Forecast

Drivers who purchase a California or Nevada Tahoe vehicle license plate will receive two free ski lift or Nordic tickets to the resort of their choice. New Tahoe plates cost $50 in California and $61 in Nevada.
