1/22/21 UPDATE: The murder suspect Jerry Lee Adams Jr. has been arrested in Reno. For the past two days, investigators from the Amador County Sheriff's Office followed up on multiple tips regarding the suspect's whereabouts. On Friday, January 22, 2021, they developed information that Adams was possibly in the Reno area. This information was provided to the Reno Police Department and at approximately 4:00 p.m., Adams was located inside a Reno area casino and arrested for the murder of Savana Lee Burger.

Arrest made in connection with overdose death of Douglas County resident

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - A three-week long investigation into the death of a 35-year old Gardnerville man has led to the arrest of Brittany Miller of Dayton, Nev.

On December 19, 2020, Jason Kaspian was found deceased due to a suspected overdose from an opioid-based substance in his Vista Grande Drive apartment. An investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) into Kaspian's death lead them to the person they believe sold him the controlled substance.

Transient arrested on charges of homicide after woman found deceased in tent near Home Depot

DNA proves innocence of man convicted of El Dorado County murder

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - A man who was facing life in prison after being convicted in 2005 for a murder that authorities now know he did not commit, is now heading home a free man. Ricky Leo Davis, now 54, was 20-years-old when a friend of his mother, 54-year-old Jane Hylton, was brutally murdered in their El Dorado Hills home in 1985.

On July 7, 1985, Davis and his 19-year-old live-in girlfriend, Connie Dahl, called law enforcement, saying they were at a party in Cameron Park and returned home to find Hylton murdered.

Wright, who was better known as Spike, never made it back to his home in River Pines, Amador County that night. Instead, he was shot and killed at about 7:45 p.m. in the parking lot of the motel.

Supervisor of two marijuana gardens arrested in connection with death of El Dorado County deputy

There has been another arrest in connection with the shooting death of El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Ishmael.

The supervisor of two marijuana gardens in the rural communities of Somerset and Georgetown, Jorge Lamas, was arrested in Yuba City on October 25 by the U.S. Marshals Service. Lamas is a resident of that Northern California town.

Three arrested in connection with shooting death of El Dorado County deputy

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Three men have been arrested in connection with the death of El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Ishmael.

Early Wednesday, October 23, Deputy Ishmael responded to a call of theft from a marijuana garden behind a residence on Sand Ridge Road in Somerset, southeast of Placerville. He had a ride-along passenger at the time, an off-duty San Joaquin County Sheriff's deputy.

Local author, JoAnn Conner, will discuss the importance of doing research when writing a mystery novel, and how this pertains to her own work. 'Heartwood' is historical fiction with a mystery woven in the story, while 'The Mountain' is a murder mystery revolving around the theft of Native American artifacts. The most challenging for Conner was launching her first series, featuring veteran Detective Frank Riley. 'Death Song' is a murder mystery that involved research on different forms of poisons, and how they are used. Book sale and signing to follow.

Douglas County man arrested after allegedly shooting at roommates

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - On Thursday, July 25 the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) responded to the Johnson Lane area of Minden at 10:15 p.m. after being dispatched to a reported shooting. A man had allegedly shot a firearm at his roommates. No one was injured in the shooting and the roommates were able to get to safety.

South Lake Tahoe jury finds local man guilty of attempted murder

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Ariel Mendoza Arce was found guilty of attempted murder by a South Lake Tahoe jury on June 26, 2019.

On August 13, 2018 at 2:40 a.m., four nurses from Reno staying in a hotel in the Heavenly Village area heard a woman screaming for help. When the nurses went to investigate the screams they witnessed Arce viciously attacking a woman by punching her, kicking her, and stomping on her head.

Aryan Brotherhood prison gang drug and murder ring broken up with help of El Dorado County DA's Office

The El Dorado County (EDC) District Attorney's Office recently helped with a state-wide investigation focused on offenders operating a criminal enterprise from both inside and outside state prisons.

Sixteen members and associates of a prison-based gang have been charged after a long-running investigation into drug trafficking and murders inside and outside of California’s prisons.

The EDC DA office's investigative division has the kind of highly trained and experienced detectives that are often called in to help with operations of this magnitude.

Detached trailer takes tumble toward Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif.- At the end of Clean Tahoe's field crew supervisor Jeff Pollitt's shift Wednesday he came across a trailer that had come loose from a truck and almost tumbled into Lake Tahoe.

Luckily, the trees stopped it from going all the way into the water. A broken fence and debris were left behind.

Pollitt said the driver of the truck carrying the trailer did not stop.

1982 Mt. Rose murder solved through genetic genealogy

On July 17, 1982, the body of a woman was found off of a hiking trail in the Sheep's Flat area near Mt. Rose just a few miles above Incline Village, was found. There was no identification or jewelry on the victim and investigators could tell by her clothing she may have been headed to Lake Tahoe when she was murdered.

And there was no suspect.

For over three decades, both her and her killer's identity have been unknown but with new DNA technologies, hard work by a team of law enforcement investigators and genealogists, the case has been solved.

South Lake Tahoe Police officers credited with preventing mass shooting

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Officers with the South Lake Tahoe Police Department were honored Thursday for their roles in the apprehension of a triple-homicide suspect on April 26, 2019.

The suspect allegedly wanted to kill more victims at South Lake Tahoe's Heavenly Village, making the officers' heroic actions that night even more important to the public's safety, according to SLTPD Chief Brian Uhler.

Judge's decision in South Lake Tahoe courtroom calls California law unconstitutional

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - One could feel the air let out of a South Lake Tahoe courtroom as visiting Judge Gary Mullen read his decision to the five defendants, their five lawyers and family members in attendance, one that tossed out their request to drop murder charges against all of the suspects in the robbery and murder in 2016 of Dennis Wright.

Judge Mullen declared California Senate Bill 1437 unconstitutional. The bill was signed by then-California Governor Jerry Brown in September 2018 and changed the liability for accomplices to felony murder.

Man who led police on pursuit into Nevada now a suspect in three murders

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The suspect arrested in Douglas County after engaging law enforcement in gunfire after a pursuit Friday night is now the suspect in three Bay Area homicides.

Stefon Jefferson, a 43-year-old man from the San Francisco area, started Friday off by allegedly fatally shooting a man in Oakland at 10:14 a.m., another in San Francisco at 1:27 p.m. and a third in Berkeley at 2:40 p.m.

Double homicide suspect in custody after South Lake Tahoe to Douglas County pursuit

UPDATE 8:30AM 4/27/19: An observant officer from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) was on patrol near the Heavenly Village at approximately 9:45 p.m. Friday night when he saw a car listed on a Bay Area police "Be On The Lookout" report go through an intersection. The report said the driver was a suspect in two homicides, one in each Oakland and San Francisco.

He followed the vehicle and attempted to pull it over with the assistance of another officer, but the driver took off and a pursuit began.

Pollock Pines man facing 43 years in prison after found guilty of murdering six-week-old baby

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The man responsible for abusing a baby from the time he was eight days old and his death five weeks later is looking at spending the next 43 years in prison after being found guilty on March 21, 2019, in Judge Kenneth Melikian's courtroom.

Michael Swope, 32, was convicted of second-degree murder of baby Sammy as well as three counts of felony child abuse causing great bodily injury for breaking various ribs on the baby over infant's short and traumatic life.

Suspect in Tahoe City shooting found dead in Reno area church

NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - More details have emerged from Saturday's deadly shooting in Tahoe City where Octavio Villa-Villanueva, 33, of Sparks, Nevada was killed and another man shot inside a car parked at the Boatworks Mall.

The suspect in the shooting, 52-year-old Salvador Murillo-Cabrera of Reno, was found deceased in a bathroom at St. Peter Canisius Catholic Church in the Sun Valley area of Reno on Sunday, apparently committing suicide during church services.

38 years after skull is found, Jane Doe has a name

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - On March 22, 1974, Nancy Webster, 37, and her daughter, 19-year-old Rebecca Dinkel were seen at a café in the Garden Valley area of El Dorado County.

They left the cafe shortly after Nancy received a threatening phone call from her abusive, common-law husband, Clifton Mahaney.

It was the last time anyone saw either one of them alive.

El Dorado County murder suspect arrested in Washington

A man with ties to South Lake Tahoe has been arrested in connection with the murder of 60-year-old Helen McKinney.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) announced Sunday that 26-year-old Tanner Michael Seals is in the Adams County Jail in Washington State after being arrested on an out-of-state warrant on January 31. He was interviewed by EDSO detectives and will be extradited to El Dorado County and charged with murder.

Murder charges filed against Martinez-Guzman; Timeline of crimes revealed

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Murder suspect Wilbur Ernesto Martinez-Guzman will be tried jointly in Reno, Nevada by both the Douglas County and Washoe County district attorneys in what could be a landmark case.

During a joint press conference Monday, the DAs from both counties outlined their case against Martinez-Guzam for the murders of Connie Koontz, Sophia Renken, Gerald David and Sharon David.

A probable cause arrest report released Friday by the Carson City Sheriff's Office on 19-year-old murder suspect Wilber Ernesto Martinez-Guzman contains a confession under Miranda.

According to the arrest report, Guzman told investigators that firearms stolen from the house of Jerry and Sherri David, the elderly South Reno couple found murdered in their home, were buried in the area of Sedge Road in East Carson City.

Murder suspect allegedly sold property of victims at Carson City pawn shops

The 19-year-old man arrested in connection with the murder of two Gardnerville woman and an elderly Reno couple earlier this month had allegedly pawned several items stolen from the victims at Carson City pawn shops, according to a criminal complaint filed in Carson City Justice Court.

Suspect in all four Northern Nevada murders in custody

UPDATE 1/23/19 - The suspect in the quadruple murder in Northern Nevada was in the country illegally from El Salvador when he was arrested on January 19, 2019. Tips received by law enforcement led them to Wilbur Ernesto Martinez-Guzman, and as they built a murder case they started to tail him. Immigration officials were unaware of Martinez-Guzman until those tips came in.

Officials did not want to lose the suspect and arrested him on immigration charges as the investigation continued and the murder case developed.

Similarities between Douglas County and Washoe County homicides

RENO, Nev. - Keeping the community safe is the number one priority of law enforcement working on four recent murders in Reno and Douglas County. This was the message from Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam during a press conference late Thursday afternoon.

Two elderly people, a man and a woman, were killed in a home in southwest Reno. Their bodies were discovered on January 16 after concerned neighbors called law enforcement after not seeing the residents. Their names and ages have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

During the evening of January 9-10, 56-year-old Connie Koontz was murdered in her home on James Road and sometime in the overnight hours of January 12-13, 74-year-old Sophia Renken was also murdered in her home.
