Al Roker of NBC’s Today Show fame, will discuss his passion, interest and concerns about climate change, as well as his storied career as keynote speaker at Operation Sierra Storm, the annual television meteorologists’ conference at Lake Tahoe. The public is invited to tune in via Facebook to watch Roker on Monday, January 25.
Operation Sierra Storm (OSS) in an annual weather conference held on the South Shore. Due to health and safety restrictions, the public is unable to attend Monday's event in person, but they are welcome to participate via Facebook.

The City of South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Arts Alliance are partnering for an art gallery reception on Monday, December 2 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at City Hall located at 1901 Lisa Maloff Way, South Lake Tahoe.
The free art reception is open to the public and will include a meet and greet with displayed artists and city officials, including this quarter's artist, Regine Bandel. Bandel will be presenting her watercolor landscapes and will also be speaking at the event.
Tahoe Regional Young Professionals to hold mixers on both north and south shores

Young professionals and other community members have two opportunities to network on both the north and south shores of Lake Tahoe during the month of October.
The Tahoe Regional Young Professionals (TRYP) will host two networking mixers. On the South Shore, their networking mixer is on Wednesday, October 9, and on the North Shore, the mixer is on Tuesday, October 15.
Everyone in the community are invited to attend these events, regardless of age. Although membership is encouraged and available for purchase at events, it is not required.
WNC offers Coding Bootcamp for Teens

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With more than one Chamber of Commerce serving the South Shore there is often confusion about their names and functions.
In 2005 the Tahoe Douglas Chamber and South Lake Tahoe Chamber merged into the Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce (LTSSCC) for the whole community, both sides of the state line. A group of California side businesses then formed the South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce.

The Golden Bear neighborhood of South Lake Tahoe will be holding an evacuation planning meeting with the Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) on Wednesday, November 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Station 6.
Residents in the area have created a spread sheet of every home, information on the residents, how many pets and other specific issues with each home. The approached LVFPD in helping them to prepare evacuation information since there is only one entrance/exit to their area off Pioneer Trail.

Scammers have been making money for years by convincing their victims to send money for a variety of reasons including promised prizes, loans, jobs, discounted products or other financial rewards in exchange for money upfront. At times the scammers even pretend to be family members in need of cash or law enforcement officers demanding payment. The scammers told people to send money through Western Union. No one received the cash, prizes or services they were promised, and before now there was no way to get their money back.

The GO Local: Business EXPO returned to the South Shore with huge success thanks to attendees, vendors, volunteers, and sponsors! Over 1,300 locals and visitors gathered inside the Harvey’s convention center, Friday, March 31, as Tahoe Chamber Member businesses showcased their latest programs, products, and services.
The night was highlighted with live entertainment from Heavenly Resort Mountain and The Loft Lounge, vendor giveaways including a raffle of two cruisers bikes courtesy of South Shore Bikes, and tasty food and beverage samples from all the generous restaurant vendors.
City's new vision statement: We will reflect the national treasure in which we live

The City of South Lake Tahoe now has a new vision statement to guide all of their decisions: "We will reflect the national treasure in which we live."
During a two-day long retreat and strategic planning session, the City Council and staff leaders met to discuss their strategies over the next two years, something they do right after every Council election.
City leaders will now get other agencies on the South Shore to join them in this mission, as well as the community. The vision will be reflected on City materials, a new logo, and be the "guiding principle in decision making."

The annual television meteorologist's conference, Operation Sierra Storm (OSS), couldn't have happened at a better time to bring the national spotlight to early January's storms fondly nicknamed Snowmageddon and Januburied.
Jim Cantore and Paul Goodloe, leading correspondents at The Weather Channel, both broadcast live from Heavenly Mountain Resort and showcased South Lake Tahoe’s powder-filled ski conditions for two days, eight hours each day during the historic snowfall January 10-13, 2017.

What is Mammoth Lakes' loss will be Lake Tahoe's gain as the Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce (Tahoe Chamber) has selected their new Chief Executive Officer from the mountain resort community to the south.
Craig A. Schmidt, the current Executive Director of Chamber of Commerce in Mammoth Lakes, will take over his new position on the South Shore February 6.
The Chamber's Board selected Schmidt, an accomplished chamber professional with 22 years of experience in business, workforce and tourism development.

Douglas County Explorers compete against 300 others in California competition

Members of the Douglas County Sheriff's Explorer's Post #2105 recently competed against 25 other law enforcement agencies in the 2016 Central Valley Law Enforcement Explorer Competition in Hanford, Calif.
The two day event against Explorers from California featured both mentally and physically challenging events.
"This young team, most of whom is their second time competing, did an outstanding job overall and represented Douglas County very well," said Sgt. Bernadette Smith in a press release.

Ski Run Blvd and Pioneer Trail will be transformed into a large water party pn August 27 when a 1000-ft water slide lets participants slipe and slide their way down the streets in South Lake Tahoe.
The Tahoe Regional Young Professional group is bringing "Slide the City" to town not only as a fundraiser, but as a fun and local event that will also feature live music, vendors and food through three-city blocks. New local business to host Tahoe Business Expo

West Coast Expos is organizing the "Tahoe Business Expo," an event where property and business owners, managers, CEOs and entrepreneurs will find resources and solutions while networking with experts in almost every field. It will be held at Harvey's Lake Tahoe on October 30, 2015.
They are looking for business owners who'd like to participate as an exhibitor, people to participate in a whole day of business seminars as well as people looking to connect with local companies. Seminars are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., exhibits open from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Lake Tahoe Summit to focus on building resilient communities

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and the Lake Tahoe Sustainable Communities Program are hosting the Tahoe Region’s first-ever sustainability summit June 22-23 at The Hyatt in Incline Village.
Called Connections 2015, the summit is all about building more resilient and sustainable communities by strengthening mountain-urban partnerships, bringing together people and organizations from all over California, Nevada, and the American West.
