Park Tahoe paid parking pilot program starts at East Shore Trail

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - When the three parking lots with 90 spaces were created last year in Incline Village for the popular East Shore Trail, they were free but all were told paid parking was coming in the near future.

That time has now come.

Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) has unveiled the Park Tahoe pilot program at the trailhead north of Ponderosa Rand Road. The lots were created to expand off-highway parking options along the high traffic area of SR28 between Incline Village and Sand Harbor State Park.

Column: Fees benefit water quality and trails

While it still feels like winter, with a healthy snowpack and ski resorts reporting record monthly snowfall in February, another building season is fast approaching. One of the questions people ask the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency each year is why they have to pay mitigation fees for their development, like new homes and remodeling projects.

Letter: Looking for tennis players at Tahoe Paradise Park

Tahoe Paradise Park is one of the most beautiful sites in the region. It offers a full array of activities including swimming, stand-up paddle, fishing ,picnicking, trail walking, and a playground. Last year pickle ball courts were added and they now draw players regularly.

On the other hand, the tennis court is rarely used.

I would like to see this changed and am inviting tennis players to contact me to set up friendly matches or just to hit. All players regardless of experience or ability are invited.

I can be reached at 530-600-2079 or at acupaiuolo@pace.edu.

South Lake Tahoe motels merge into one, the Hotel Becket

What were once three separate South Lake Tahoe motels have merged into one new lodging property, the Hotel Becket.

The San Francisco hotel chain Joie de Vivre merged the Park Tahoe and 968 Park motels into their first location in Lake Tahoe. Located at the corner of Highway 50 and Park Avenue in South Lake Tahoe, Hotel Becket was originally two Travelodge motels and one Day's Inn. Several years ago the Travelodges merged into the Park Tahoe and the Day's Inn became 968 Park.

Hotel Becket is named from the "becket knot," a nautical term for tying two ropes into one.

Tension is high. Palms are sweaty. Beer is in the cooler and everyone in the room is armed with printed materials and pens. Weeks of studying, plotting and planning has all been in preparation for this one big moment. A barren banner spread along one wall with 8 empty columns is about to be marked upon over the next 4 hours.

The headers on each column are now filled in with the names Cheeseheads, Rabid, Go Deep, Rebel Dogs, Midgets Punching Clowns, Wide Right, Tahokies and East Coast Connection.

This folks is the beginning of a Fantasy Football Draft.
