Submitted by paula on Fri, 08/30/2019 - 11:04pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two El Dorado County men have been arrested on multiple charges after leading law enforcement on a chase through South Lake Tahoe and Meyers Friday afternoon.
At 1:12 p.m., the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) was notified of a reckless driver on US50 near Heidi's Restaurant. The person who called it in said the car was a Lexus 4-door and it was heading west.

Gardnerville man arrested in South Lake Tahoe on alleged attempt to have sex with a minor
Submitted by paula on Thu, 08/29/2019 - 4:51pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 55-year-old man from Gardnerville, Nevada was arrested in South Lake Tahoe Wednesday morning after allegedly arranging to have sex with a minor.
Detectives from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) had been working on a cold case involving Robert Allen Oakes when they became aware of communications between him and the minor female from the cold case.

The suspect(s) used spray paint on cars, homes, bear boxes and trailers.
Anyone with information is asked to call 530-542-6100 or secret witness at 530-541-6800.
South Lake Tahoe Police K9 Officer Rocky sworn in
Submitted by paula on Tue, 08/20/2019 - 6:48pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Rocky officially joined the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) on Tuesday evening when the 15-month old dog was sworn in as a K9 officer.
Rocky lives with his trainer, SLTPD Officer Cory Wilson. They have been training together for three months.
The Angel of Tahoe, Lisa Maloff, donated $50,000 for the purchase of Rocky and his training as well as a previous sizable donation for K9 officer, Rikki, his trainer's vehicle and training.
Full response by law enforcement after man with rifle reported at Nevada Beach
Submitted by paula on Sun, 08/18/2019 - 6:20pmSTATELINE, Nev. - Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) were called out to Nevada Beach Sunday at 1:30 p.m. when a caller into dispatch said there was a man on the beach with an assault-style rifle.
The beach was immediately shut down and facilities were searched. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department was called out to assist at the beach.
Tahoe Douglas Fire asked people to stay out of the area in a Twitter post - "There is currently a situation at Nevada Beach. Please stay clear. Law enforcement on scene." One hour later they tweeted all was clear.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that 23-year-old Henry Flores Rojas had allegedly used a baseball bat on the windows of a car where his ex-girlfriend and their one-year-old child were seeking safety.
One arrested after high-speed pursuit from South Lake Tahoe to Placerville

A detective from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) happened to be in the parking lot of The Crossing Thursday afternoon when he observed what looked to be a theft in progress at the Big 5 Sporting Goods store.

This year in South Lake Tahoe it was held at Bijou Elementary and had multiple agencies interacting with youth and adults with hands-on exhibits and activities.
Driver escapes after high speed pursuit from South Lake Tahoe to Zephyr Cove
Submitted by paula on Tue, 08/06/2019 - 4:30pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A driver and his passenger escaped after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase from the Heavenly Village area of South Lake Tahoe to Zephyr Cove, Nevada. They crashed their car into a guard rail and ran away.
On Sunday, August 4 an officer from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) attempted to make a traffic stop at 2:06 a.m. when the driver failed to yield and took off. A pursuit ensued into Douglas County, at times reaching high rates of speed. Six minutes later the suspect's car crashed into a guard rail on Highway 50 in Zephyr Cove.
Hazmat response to suspicious powder found in building behind Barton Hospital
Submitted by paula on Thu, 08/01/2019 - 3:45pm5:25 p.m. Update: The El Dorado County HazMat Emergency Response team has confirmed that the powder substance found in a package delivered to Barton's supply chain this morning is not hazardous.
The sequestered employees have been released and the back entrance of the hospital is now accessible to the public.
"Barton is thankful for the local agencies who collaborated with us to ensure the safety of staff and patients," said Mindi Befu, Barton's Director of Marketing, Public Relations & Patient Experience.

Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/24/2019 - 12:06amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 13-year-old boy on a Lime Scooter was hit by a car Tuesday night as he was riding it in the fast lane on Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe.
According to South Lake Tahoe Police Department Sgt. Nick Carlquist, a group of about one-half dozen kids on scooters were heading west on the highway in the #2 lane, or better known as the slow lane of the road. They completely took the lane over said Carlquist, forcing drivers into the other lanes and causing a traffic hazard.

South Lake Tahoe Police: 18-year-old arrested after allegedly striking cyclist with car, fleeing scene
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/16/2019 - 5:47pm7:30 p.m. update: An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of Felony Hit and Run Causing Injury. Rafael Aliberth Corte-Zulloa is currently in the El Dorado County Jail on a $10,000 bail hold.
The car SLTPD had been looking for was found in the 800 block of Los Angeles Avenue in South Lake Tahoe less than an hour after the crash, leading to the arrest of Corte-Zulloa.
Car left running, empty and on its side after driver crashes into South Lake Tahoe home
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/15/2019 - 8:16pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Emergency personnel were called out to a home on Springwood Drive in South Lake Tahoe early Monday morning after a vehicle crashed into it, severing the gas meter.
Upon arrival just before 3:00 a.m. July 15, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) found a car still running and on its side after it hit the unoccupied home. The driver was nowhere to be found.
Small fire overnight in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 07/12/2019 - 9:32pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The cause of a small fire on Al Tahoe Boulevard is still under investigation by South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue.
At 1:42 a.m. Friday, firefighters were dispatched to a vegetation fire near the entrance to the Community Play Fields. South Lake Tahoe Police Department units arrived on scene first and were able to extinguish the bulk of the fire prior to the arrival of firefighters. The fire was kept to a 10’ x 20’ spot.
The fire is suspicious and at this time the cause is still under investigation.
South Lake Tahoe fire displaces residents of three apartments
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/11/2019 - 5:09pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - One apartment is a total loss and two others suffered major damage after a Thursday afternoon fire on Terry Lane in South Lake Tahoe.
At 12:07 p.m., South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue responded to a fully engulfed fire in the 3600 block of Terry Lane. Upon arrival, firefighters found a six-unit apartment building with one of the upstairs units on fire.
The occupants of all six units escaped the fire with no injuries after being evacuated by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD).
Identity of man found deceased on South Lake Tahoe golf course released
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/09/2019 - 10:13amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif.- The identity of the man found deceased on the 4th of July at the Bijou Municipal Golf Course has been released by the El Dorado County Sheriff Coroner. 55-year-old Dean Kohler of South Lake Tahoe was found near the entrance to the golf course which is located on Fairway Avenue.
The South Lake Tahoe Police Department said the deceased was not wearing clothing but no foul play is suspected. The case is still under investigation and cause of death is not known.
South Lake Tahoe police officer involved in two-car collision
Submitted by paula on Sat, 07/06/2019 - 9:19pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A collision in the intersection of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Lodi Avenue in South Lake Tahoe Saturday evening sent one police officer to the hospital.
Just before 8:00 p.m. on July 6, emergency dispatch received a call from that officer to alert them he had just been in a collision.
Since the incident involves one of their officers, South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) has turned the investigation over to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Body of man found near South Lake Tahoe golf course
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/04/2019 - 2:03pm3:10 PM update: The South Lake Tahoe Police Department says the body found today at Bijou Municipal Golf Course is that of a 55-year-old South Lake Tahoe resident. No foul play is suspected.
The name of the deceased person will not be released until next of kin has been notified. An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death.
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The naked body of a man was found at the Bijou Municipal Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe just before 1:00 p.m. Thursday.

On August 13, 2018 at 2:40 a.m., four nurses from Reno staying in a hotel in the Heavenly Village area heard a woman screaming for help. When the nurses went to investigate the screams they witnessed Arce viciously attacking a woman by punching her, kicking her, and stomping on her head.

Florida man arrested in Meyers on charges stemming from alleged stalking and criminal threats
Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/28/2019 - 5:45pmEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - An Ormond Beach, Florida man is sitting in the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe on charges of stalking, carrying a concealed weapon and vandalism.
On June 24, detectives from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) began an around-the-clock investigation of an interstate stalking and criminal threats case. The case involved credible and serious threats against the victim’s life according to EDSO.
Police ask for public's help after bullets found in South Lake Tahoe homes
Submitted by paula on Thu, 06/27/2019 - 9:35pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - At around 3:00 a.m. Thursday, June 27 a South Lake Tahoe woman woke up to a loud noise and found debris on her face. She didn't think much of it and went back to sleep. Upon awakening in the morning she found what she thought was a bullet hole in her bedroom window.
She called the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) who arrived at the home on Fresno Avenue in the Al Tahoe neighborhood. They found three bullet holes in the house and a fourth that entered a neighboring home on Tallac Avenue.
Police also found four handgun shell casings at the scene.
Lake Tahoe Community College investigates alleged gun threat made by student
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/25/2019 - 11:19pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Officials with Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) and South Lake Tahoe Police Department are investigating an alleged gun threat made by a student on campus June 13.
The head of campus security is conducting an internal investigation and the police and other security personnel are also involved with their own investigations. They have interviewed the unidentified student who allegedly made the statement in front of another student while in a science class.

Officers will be at the library in South Lake Tahoe each Friday at 10:30 a.m. starting June 21 to read stories for the youth in our community in English and the Spanish version, Libros Y Placas, every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Each storytime will last about one hour and is suitable for families with young children.

In anticipation of traffic congestion during the upcoming 4th of July and Labor Day holidays, El Dorado County (EDC) is hosting a public meeting to discuss traffic control measures in the Lake Tahoe Basin on Tuesday, June 18 at 6:00 p.m. at the California Conservation Corps building.
El Dorado County Department of Transportation (EDCDOT) will present a traffic congestion circulation alternative that officially and temporarily closes portions of both Sawmill Road and North Upper Truckee at Highway 50.
Plane flips on runway at Lake Tahoe Airport; No injuries reported
Submitted by paula on Sun, 06/09/2019 - 3:40pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A Taildragger-style aircraft flipped on the runway at Lake Tahoe Airport Sunday just after the pilot landed.
There were no injuries to the pilot except for some scratches, the only person on board at the time of the incident.
The call came into emergency dispatch at 12:06 p.m.

Lake Tahoe canoers stranded 3/4 mile off shore after boat takes on water

The two people were in a canoe that took on water for unknown reasons about 3/4 of a mile off the shore of South Lake Tahoe. They ended up in the water and were there for about ten minutes before a local boater got to them and pulled them out of the water. The Nevada Department of Wildlife had a boat on the water that reached the group, followed by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) boat. SLTPD got the pair off the local boater's boat and returned them to El Dorado Beach.

Officers have seen a large influx of transient/homeless calls, burglary, theft, and location checks in the city hot spots. Some of the "regular" transients have returned to the basin for the summer, creating some additional illegal camping warnings, trespass arrests and warnings, and public intoxication calls.

South Lake Tahoe woman jailed after allegedly hurting a special needs toddler
Submitted by paula on Fri, 05/24/2019 - 3:10pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An investigation into the abuse of a special needs toddler has landed a South Lake Tahoe woman in jail.
The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) was called to Barton Hospital on April 14 because the 18-month old had been brought in with a broken femur and bruising to the face and head. The child was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno for more intensive medical care including surgery.

Police pursuit of South Lake Tahoe man caught on film in Sacramento
Submitted by paula on Wed, 05/22/2019 - 10:49am1:00 PM UPDATE: More information has been released in the arrest of Christopher Wadstein in Sacramento. Police found almost a pound of methamphetamine in the fire after his truck burst into flames.
Wadstein is a long time South Lake Tahoe resident with arrests dating back to his teenage years. Lt. Shannon Laney said their first file on him was in 2001. His previous convictions range from drugs and vandalism to kidnapping and weapons
charges. He is also believed to be a skinhead white supremacist prison gang member according to SLTPD.
Council approves new officers for South Lake Tahoe Police Department
Submitted by paula on Tue, 05/21/2019 - 11:14pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The current staffing level of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) is 30 authorized, sworn officers, and even with this low number they are rarely at full staffing. During the summer of 2018, the department handled an average of 99 calls per day and had 196 incidents where no officer was available to respond immediately, and about 15 times a day they told callers to 911 the officer would be delayed.
South Lake Tahoe man faces stolen car and DUI charges just hours after release from jail
Submitted by paula on Sun, 05/19/2019 - 8:50amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It didn't take long for a 24-year-old local man to head back to jail on Saturday, May 18.
The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) received a call from a man at 3:20 p.m., alerting them that his car had just been stolen from the Glen Road/Pioneer Trail area. The victim had given someone a ride and needed to stop by his house and left the car running as he ran inside. He came out from his home and found both the car and rider gone.
