The View at 6229.1': #BeKindSLT
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/17/2018 - 12:43pmI’ve had this article in my head for months, bouncing around the walls of my brain, trying to decide where to go with it. There is an epidemic continuing to spread in this country. One that is curable without a vaccine, without drugs, without changing one’s diet. It’s called a Lack of Kindness.
Locals and tourists alike can feel it in South Lake Tahoe, as if a cloud of hate has descended over the lake. Pleasantries seem to be a forgotten art, as has simple kindness like holding a door open for another, or letting a car back out of a parking space, or a simple smile to a stranger.

Mayor Wendy David: Community Conversations
Submitted by paula on Fri, 02/09/2018 - 8:24pmFirst, a confession of weirdness. I love being a part of groups. I like the synergy of groups, how they work collaboratively, how the room sounds… some listening, others talking.
I like the process of group decision-making, the back and forth, the quiet and noisy, the 'aha' moments of clarity, that groups have goals and purpose. It may be quirky, but instead of being drained from being with and working in a group, I find it energizing.

Letter: VHRs in El Dorado County are out of control
Submitted by paula on Sat, 11/18/2017 - 9:53pmDear Editor;
In writing this letter, I am only expressing my own opinion and not that of
any organization or entity.
Vacation Home Rentals (VHRs) in the County are out of control. As is
evidenced by the number of residents complaining about noise, parking, trash,
over-occupancy, etc, it is time for our government representatives to act and
change the current ordinance to respect our rights to live in peaceful
neighborhoods.
There are many issues surrounding VHRs that need to be addressed, but I
U.S. Marines training in South Lake Tahoe with MV-22 Ospreys
Submitted by paula on Sat, 10/14/2017 - 1:21pmHave you heard, or seen, military helicopters around South Lake Tahoe the last few days? The U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Miramar is conducting training using the MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft at the Lake Tahoe Airport from October 11 until at least October 18.
At first, their plans were to station 12 aircraft at the airport until October 30, so final training plans may have changed. They will also be using a meeting room and hangar at the airport for training purposes.
Sass Talk: VHRs, Martin Hollay and Yes on C
Submitted by paula on Sat, 10/07/2017 - 7:48amOn Tuesday, a majority of city council agreed on a revised VHR (Vacation Home Rental) ordinance. In two weeks we will vote on the first reading of the ordinance and if a majority supports it, on November 7th would be the final vote to adopt the revised regulations and rules. The ordinance would then go into effect 30 days later.
Opinion: Who owns the 'All Year Playground?'
Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/18/2017 - 10:21pmI read with great interest Mayor Sass’s recent editorial of how he and Wendy David have been living, sleeping, and eating the VHR issue for over 2 years. I internalized these words and reflected how we, as responsible vacation home rental managers, have been dealing with inept City Councils and City Management for over 12 years.
