Soroptimists of Tahoe Sierra launch popular online auction

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The women of Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) have launched their online auction, the top fundraiser for the group celebrating over 47 years of serving the local community.

The Mane Event celebrates Between Horses and Humans in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Tickets are now on sale for the second annual Mane Event, a fundraiser for Between Horses and Humans. This youth-oriented nonprofit serves Douglas County and the Lake Tahoe area and teaches kids life skills through horsemanship. The Mane Event is Saturday, June 1 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Cowork Tahoe, 3079 Harrison Ave. in South Lake Tahoe.

The event features live music, an animal meet and greet, food and beverages, a silent auction, kids raffle and face painting, community mural painting, games, and more. Tickets are $40 for adults and $10 for kids.

Alpenglow Sports announces 4th annual Community Book Initiative and theme, stewardship

Alpenglow Sports is kicking off its 4th annual Community Book Initiative on May 13. The month-long event will highlight 21 books, chosen in collaboration with 10 respected and diverse community members, admired for their mountain, environmental and/or social leanings. The event will run from May 13-June 10, during which all of the proceeds from these specific titles will benefit the local nonprofit, Clean Up the Lake. Tahoe Joy Music Festival

The Tahoe Joy Festival brings back the Dead Winter Carpenters to Tahoe City headlining the annual festival on Sunday, June 9 from 12pm to 6pm at the Commons Beach in Tahoe City.

The Dead Winter Carpenters, who formed their Americana roots/rock band in 2010 on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, are local fan favorites and the biggest local break-out band from the Tahoe area. They have played with the likes of Jason Isbell and the Infamous Stringdusters and are festival favorites at High Sierra, Hangtown, Strawberry and other large music festivals.

Kudos: Local "hero" replaces flags at Grocery Outlet, fixes American Legion building

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Dave Ennis, a long-time South Lake Tahoe local, recently came to the rescue of two local properties - the American Legion and Grocery Outlet.

For the last few years, there has been a hole in the rear of the American Legion building where a screened grate was once in place. Dave is a member of the American Legion and told Commander Tom Milham he'd get his "Genie" lift back in town and replace the grate. Dave got up on the lift and replaced the grate.

Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe holds 40th annual Spelling Bee

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe has held a Spelling Bee for students in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District for the last 40 years. Last week the word action returned, with students from Sierra House, Bijou, and Meyers elementary schools participating (all local schools are invited).

Couple honored by Pay it Forward Project for Bread & Broth volunteering

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two South Lake Tahoe residents have been honored by the Pay It Forward Project for their volunteer work on the South Shore. Dave Carneggie and Bonnie Driscoll were given a $250 grant in their honor to give to the nonprofit of their choice, and they selected Tahoe Magic. They were also treated to dinner at the Chart House as a thank-you for all they have done for the community.

Monday Meal is a weekly, full-course, nutritious hot dinner that is served by Bread & Broth (B&B), a ministry of St. Theresa Catholic Church. For over 34 years, B&B has been extending an invitation to all members of the Lake Tahoe South Shore community to join their communal dinner. In recent years, in addition to the meal service, B&B also provides food “giveaway” bags filled with dairy products (milk, eggs, butter), fresh fruit and vegetables, breads and pastries, meat, and a varied assortment of staples.

Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe holds 2nd annual Bright Futures Awards Ceremony

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The future is indeed bright if the youth attending the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT) are any indication. The club held its 2nd annual Bright Futures Awards Ceremony in the Angel of Tahoe building.

Over 700 children are registered at BGCLT this year and they now operate at four locations with 18 summer programs and even had a teen sleepaway camp this past summer.

Tahoe Chamber announces Blue Ribbon Award finalists

South Tahoe High School in need of Senior Project judges

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Tahoe High School (STHS) seniors will be presenting their senior projects on June 4, and judges from the community are needed to score presentations and portfolios.

This is always a fun experience and no experience is necessary.

Volunteer judges will receive five digital portfolios a week before the Senior Project presentations. They read and score them, then on June 4, the volunteers arrive at the high school at 1:30 p.m. to listen to the five students share what they did. The afternoon event concludes by 4 p.m.

Liberty hosts Bread & Broth Monday Meal

The 101 dinner guests at St. Theresa’s Bread & Broth Monday Meal on April 22 were treated to both a great meal served by Liberty team members and B&B volunteers and great live music. High Sierra Softball kicks off season at Soroptimist Stadium

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The High Sierra Softball League (HSSL) kicked off their season on Sunday, April 21 at Soroptimist Stadium: Home of Girls Softball at the South Tahoe Middle School. Each of the 12 teams was introduced as they entered the field. This year, over 130 girls are playing in the league which is for ages 5-16.

Rotary holds entrepreneurial keynote program at Tahoe Blue Event Center

MEYERS, Calif. - The temperatures are warming up, and that could only mean one thing - it's almost time for summer and the start of great events in the area.

The Meyers Mountain Market and Music in the Park concert series have both announced their opening dates, and music acts heading to Tahoe Paradise Park.

Meyers Mountain Market begins on Wednesday, June 5, and is held on Wednesdays through September 11. Join them for farm fresh produce, live music, food, artisan handmade crafts, and a grand ole' time. They are a certified farmer's market.

Cyclists return to Lake Tahoe for America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride in support of blood cancer patients

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) annual America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride around Lake Tahoe returns on June 2, 2024. A winner in 2024 USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Award for Best Road Cycling Event, the ride offers a unique experience to help drive its lifesaving mission.

Cyclists from across the country will be taking part to help change the lives of blood cancer patients. Monies raised during the event help fund groundbreaking research, provide free patient support and assistance, and advocate on behalf of blood cancer patients and their families.
