EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. – In their annual changing-of-the-guard meeting, the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors voted to elect Brooke Laine as their chair for 2026. She was vice-chair this past year, with Lori Parlin as second vice-chair. Now those two positions will be held by Greg Ferrero as 1st chair, and Brian Veerkamp as 2nd chair
Laine was approved by a 4-1 vote with Supervisor Palin dissenting, and the other two spots were unanimous.
“It is an honor and a privilege to have been chosen by my colleagues to serve as Chairman of the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors for 2026,” said Laine. “El Dorado County is quite diverse. There are many differing opinions by members of the public, which is reflected by my fellow board members. I look forward to working collaboratively with the board and the public to advance our shared mission.”
Laine had originally suggested Parlin be named chair and she retain the 1st chair position, but that motion lacked momentum with the others. Another motion that failed was keeping the chair and vice-chair the same, and bringing in a new body as the 2nd vice chair. There was much discussion about continuity with the three positions, so there would always be someone with experience on the board set to chair it for the next two years.
As her first duty, Laine thanked outgoing chair George Turnboo for his year as the head, and for his stepping up after things went into flux after the sudden death of John Hidahl in 2024, and Wendy Thomas not seeking reelection.
Laine’s term ends this year, and she has already announced that she will run for reelection. She will appear on June’s ballot.
