UPDATE: Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District has sent three crews to Los Angeles. One engine and two brush trucks with a total of 12 firefighters have left the Tahoe Basin to assist in fighting the powerful Southern California flames.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – Firefighting teams from the Lake Tahoe Basin and Northern Nevada are among those responding to the massive fires in the Los Angeles area.

As of Wednesday, 27 personnel from the region are among those assigned to the Palisades and Eaton fires. An engine with four personnel each has been sent from South Lake Tahoe, Lake Valley, Fallen Leaf Lake, Truckee Meadows, and Lyon County fire departments along with a strike team leader from Incline Village (North Lake Tahoe Fire), and a crew leader from Fallen Leaf Lake. Also responding is a team on an engine with a strike team leader from the USFS Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU). There is also a strike team on standby from LTBMU.

These fire fighters are joining teams from across California, Nevada and a call has gone out to other states.

As of Wednesday at noon there are five fires in the Los Angeles area burning, the largest being the Palisades and Eaton fires. The Palisades Fire has burned 11,802 acres, Eaton is at 10,600 acres, and they are followed by the Hurst Fire at 505 acres. See CalFire here for the latest.

Forecasted high winds are fanning the flames when have claimed at least two lives, destroyed 1,000 structures and forced tens of thousands of people to evacuate their homes. On Monday, the National Weather Service in Los Angeles warned people of the “extremem risk” and that the conditions of the firestorm were “life-threatening and destructive.”
