ALPINE COUNTY, Calif. – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has reopened State Route 89 (Monitor Pass) at the State Route 4/89 Junction. Caltrans
maintenance crews made significant progress with their snow removal operations
This week, along with Monitor Pass, we have deemed it safe to reopen to the public.

Changeable Message Signs (CMS) will display information regarding the pass closures for motorists.

Caltrans urges motorists not to pass snow removal equipment on the highway, to use
caution, and watch for icy road surfaces in the overnight and early morning hours.
