The Republican Women of California, South Lake Tahoe held their first meeting of 2025 on January 9. Over 40 locals and guests were in attendance to hear newly elected council members David Jinkens and Keith Roberts share their visions for South Lake Tahoe. Both agreed that these are personal visions and not the official opinions of the city council.
Council Member Jinkens spoke first. His vision is for the city to return to a “core services” focus but with an emphasis on economic development and business retention efforts.
- Police, Fire, Roads, and Snow Removal were the city’s core services when incorporated – let us return to that concept then we can try to do more.
- I especially plan to advocate for (among other things) a true annual road maintenance plan – let us give monies to public works to get this job done—the city has the funds.
- I am also advocating for an Ad-Hoc Committee to explore grants and additional funding to provide to CTC and USFS to require them to remove dangerous brush from their properties in the city limits and the Tahoe Basin.
Several questions were asked by those in attendance.
Council Member Roberts spoke regarding his “vision” for the city and provided updates to several outstanding issues. His vision prioritizes keeping focused on the reasons the city was incorporated in the first place – police, fire, roads. Additionally, he is advocating to keep the city “business friendly” and to improve some of the city’s trail systems. Council Member Roberts supports and is involved in improving transit services and mentioned the city and county are near an agreement to keep the existing senior center for our seniors.
Several questions were asked regarding: Measure T Reform, Heavenly Annexation, Parking on Ski Run issue, becoming our own County, and restoring the free Senior Shuttle service.
