SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The first meeting of 2025 for the South Lake Tahoe City Council (Council) will be held on Tuesday, January 14 at 9 a.m. in Council Chambers at the airport.
On the agenda:
Vision Zero Action Plan – The City of South Lake Tahoe’s Vision Zero Action Plan was selected to be eligible to receive grants to help staff enhance roadway and transportation safety and significantly reduce or eliminate fatalities and serious injuries in the City. Previously the Council adopted the Vision Zero Policy by a resolution in September 2024, and now the plan will be created to address evolving needs and information as well as completed projects and progress made to date related to traffic safety that will continue to be addressed. Once the plan is approved the City can apply for the grants. Three examples of the proposed Vision Zero Projects and Implementation Actions include: A Citywide Sign Inventory, Retro-reflectivity, and Upgrade Project; the Development of a Complete Streets Policy and Design Standards; the Development and Maintenance of an Active Transportation Plan (Pedestrian/Bicyclist and non-motorized vehicle). The Vision Zero Action Plan will be treated as a dynamic, living document.
Appointments to citizen committees: From submitted applications, the Council is scheduled to select two members to serve a two-year term on the Airport Land Use Commission; five members to serve a two-year term on the Building and Housing Board of Appeals; four members to serve a two-year term on the Parks and Recreation Commission; three members to serve a two-year term on the Planning Commission; three at-large members and one Boys and Girls Club member to serve two-year terms on the Arts, Culture, and Tourism Commission; and four members to serve two-year terms on the Police Advisory Commission. If not enough qualified applications have applied for the openings, the Council will direct the City Clerk on next steps.
Discuss and possibly approve a Letter of Opposition to El Dorado County Regarding Implementation of Assembly Bill 626 (Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operation). On November 1, 2024, city staff met with the El Dorado County Environmental Management Department to discuss AB 626 & 377 -Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operations (MEHKO) and the associated implications for local jurisdictions. While not yet agendized, the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors will likely be considering the components of this legislation soon. The Supervisors opposed the passage of AB 626 in 2018 and they may choose to “opt-in” or “opt out” of the legislation. There are potential impacts to the city.
