SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif – There are many outstanding reasons to live in South Lake Tahoe: The beauty of the forests, the clean mountain air, the frequent ‘bluebird’ days, and access to Lake Tahoe with its many recreational activities. All of these reasons contribute to a local’s love for the South Lake Tahoe community. For the ‘New Wave Sailing Crew’, which sponsored Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal on January 19, gliding over the lake, powered by the wind, is one of the best ways to enjoy the magnificence of our community’s alpine lake.
The ‘New Wave Sailing Crew’ is just one of the many sailing crews in South Lake Tahoe that are members of the South Lake Tahoe Windjammers Club (SLTWYC), which emphasizes having fun, meeting new people, and sharing sailing experiences. Wanting to support the community, Ashley Farr, SLTWYC Commodore, and Eric Villadsen, SLTWYC Rear Commodore, reached out to personally sponsor an Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD). They invited fellow sailing crew members Matt Albani and Lisa Hodges to join them in supporting their Monday sponsorship meal.
“We all care a lot about our community,” shared Ashley. “To give back by hosting a free dinner for our fellow community members is incredible.”
The dinner was a wonderful event enjoyed by the dinner guests who came not only for a free, hot meal but to also receive two to three bags of healthy food. The bags which the ‘New Wave Sailing Crew’ helped pack include meat, fresh fruit and vegetables, milk, eggs, butter, breads, pastries, and a variety of basic staples.
Volunteering at a Bread & Broth (B&B) dinner event is a rewarding experience. Volunteering alongside team members who are friendly and dedicated to helping others is eye-opening and meaningful. It is heartwarming to see dinner guests in a warm and inviting environment, enjoying their meals, and it is a great way to personally experience the impact of the donation of time and funding.
“It was a rewarding experience that we look forward to repeating again later this year,” Ashley added. The ‘New Wave Sailing Crew’ members were eager and helpful volunteers, and B&B looks forward to welcoming them back to a future Monday Meal.
