SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Several South Lake Tahoe organizations are banding together to host a peaceful protest and march on Saturday, February 8 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The theme, Rise Together, is meant to bring the community together to show unity, solidarity, and humanity and provide resources as many face hate, experience the fear of violence, and are not being accepted under the current administration’s policies.
At 10 a.m. at Lakeview Commons, people will be gathering and sharing information, with a march planned for 11 a.m. from the Commons along the bike path to Ski Run Blvd., and back. For those not wishing to walk, there will be resources on migrant and trans rights, booths, and a protest space at Lakeview Commons.
“We march peacefully and in solidarity because we know that the current administration’s agenda is to divide all people living in this country and to erode our collective power,” said organizer Lake Tahoe Pride. “We question any leader spreading such disingenuous rhetoric about the migrants and trans people in our communities, who simply want to live and improve their lives. We must question any authority that so clearly aims to stir up violence, empower bullies, and weaponize fear against good and hardworking people. And we hope that those who agree will gather Saturday morning to march with us.”
Along with Lake Tahoe Pride, other organizations and businesses are participating, including Zensational Yoga Therapy, Peace Love Tahoe / Access Tahoe, and Ally Club members from local schools.
More info will be available this week at @laketahoepride (Facebook and Instagram) and laketahoepride.org. For those interested, there is a pre-event sign making party at Lake Tahoe Community College rooms L103/104 on Thursday, February 7 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
With few parking options, the public is encouraged to carpool and take public transit.
