SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – After 34 years with the U.S. Forest Service, Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) Forest Supervisor, Erick Walker, retired on Jan. 9, 2026. Walker got his start at Lake Tahoe working as a seasonal range technician while earning his degree at the University of Nevada, Reno, before venturing off on his career and returning to Lake Tahoe as the forest supervisor in 2021 after being the deputy supervisor at the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest in Washington. Walker previously worked on national forests in California, Nevada, Vermont, New York and Idaho.

Filling in as the interim acting forest supervisor for LTBMU is Rosalie Herrera, who was the deputy forest supervisor in Lake Tahoe at the time of Walker’s retirement.

Herrera came to Lake Tahoe from the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest in Arizona in 2024, where she had served as the recreation, lands, and minerals program manager since 2021. She recently served in permanent and detailed assignments on several National Forests in the Pacific Southwest Region (California) as a public services staff officer, natural resource specialist, district recreation officer, district public services officer, union steward, and wilderness ranger. She has also worked on an engine crew. Additionally, Rosalie previously worked for the National Park Service.

According to an LTBMU spokesperson, there is no known timeline for naming a permanent supervisor.
