TAHOMA, Calif. – The Sierra State Parks Foundation, in partnership with California State Parks, invites the public to celebrate local Olympic heritage and winter recreation at the 7th Annual Free Ski and Snowshoe Day on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 11 am to 3 pm at Sugar Pine Point State Park.

This free, family-friendly event is designed to connect the community with the park’s Olympic history while offering an accessible opportunity for new and returning visitors to explore the park in winter. Activities will take place on the campground side of the park (not lakeside), where groomed trails provide ideal conditions for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Event highlights include:

  • FREE “Path of the Olympians” guided snowshoe hike at 1:00 p.m. (equipment included)
  • Cross-country ski rentals
  • Biathlon laser rifle demonstrations
  • Snow science activities
  • Junior Ranger programming
  • Complimentary pastries and refreshments provided by the Sierra State Parks Foundation

Parking is free for registered participants. Visitors must register in advance for a free parking pass, valid only on March 1, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registered guests should print their pass and place it on their dashboard upon arrival.

This annual event continues to grow as a beloved winter tradition, welcoming all ages and experience levels to learn, explore, and enjoy Sugar Pine Point State Park.

“Events like Free Ski and Snowshoe Day are a wonderful way to welcome the community into Sugar Pine Point State Park during the winter season,” said Jeremy Lin, District Interpretive Manager with California State Parks. “By sharing the park’s Olympic legacy and offering hands-on recreation for all ages, we’re helping visitors build a deeper connection to this special place and feel confident exploring it year-round.”
