DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. – The Douglas County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of the Carson Valley Cinemas for $2.9M during their last meeting with plans to turn it into a Cultural and Performing Arts Community Center. Now, they are looking for a non-profit to bring their ideas to fruition and in turn, have exclusive rights to manage and maintain the theater into a thriving center.
Key Details of the Agreement:
- Exclusive Operating Rights: The selected arts non-profit will have the exclusive right to operate and maintain the local movie theater and future Cultural and Performing Arts Community Center.
- Mission-Driven Operations: The non-profit will manage the facility on behalf of Douglas County, with a clear mission set by a newly appointed Cultural Arts Advisory Board and Douglas County Community Services staff.
- Proceeds: All net proceeds generated from facility operations, programs, concessions, sales, fundraising events, grants, and donations will be directed toward the maintenance and future improvements of the facility, as well as art-focused programs benefiting Douglas County residents.
The County invites qualified local art non-profits to schedule an appointment to interview for their organization’s interest in meeting Douglas County’s needs and intents in operating the Cultural and Performing Arts Community Center, movie theater, and arts program. Please contact Community Services Director, Brook Adie to schedule an interview prior to February 14, 2025. A recommendation will be made prior to February 20, 2025.
Funding for the purchase will come from restricted room tax revenues.
