SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The first wave of the storm systems heading to Lake Tahoe this week wasn’t as big as expected at lake level, but Tuesday is turning out to be as forecasted.

The cameras on California roads operated through CalTrans Quickmaps have been down since Monday afternoon. CCTV live cameras went down overnight in many areas in the state. Calls have not been returned as to when they’ll be functioning again.

Lake Tahoe Unified School District was already closed this week due to Winter Break as was the Truckee Tahoe Unified School District and Douglas County School District. Schools in Carson City, including WNC, and Reno, including UNR, are closed to in-person learning.

Lake Tahoe Community College is closed on Tuesday due to snow.

From the National Weather Service in Reno for today’s weather in South Lake Tahoe:

Today – Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 28. Southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. The chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 12 to 18 inches is possible.

Tonight Snow, mainly before 1 am. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 7. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches is possible.
