NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – There have been two fatalities at the Northstar California Resort at Lake Tahoe over the last two weeks. The first occurred on February 6, 2026, with the second one on February 15.
On February 6, Northstar confirmed there was a serious incident that took place on the mountain, resulting in the death of 26-year-old Nicholas Kenworthy. Northstar Ski Patrol responded to the advanced Martis Trail and transferred the care of Kenworthy to the Truckee Fire Department, where he was pronounced deceased.
“Northstar California Resort, Northstar Ski Patrol, and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our guest’s family, loved ones, and friends,” said Tara Schoedinger, general manager of Northstar.
Then, on February 15, a serious mountain collision between two guests resulted in the death of Stuart McLaughlin, 53. Northstar California Resort confirmed the collision on the advanced Polaris trail. Ski Patrol responded to the incident where one guest was pronounced deceased by the Northstar Fire Department, and the other was transported to Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee for treatment.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic event, and the Northstar team extends our deepest condolences to the family, loved ones, and friends of the guests involved,” said Schoedinger.
