SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – It’s that time of year again! You’ve most likely seen the young ladies selling boxes of Girl Scout cookies in front of local grocery stores. Their smiles bright and they stand behind boxes of Adventurefuls, Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Lemonades, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Toast-Yay, and Toffee-tastic (and now gluten-free Caramel Chocolate Chip).
Admit it, you’re imaging eating a cookie right now as you read this!
The girls from Cadet Troop 288 are selling their cookies to raise money for an 8th grade graduation trip to South America next year. The cookies sell for $7 per box and the troop earns $1 per box, so lots of cookies need to be sold for the trip!
One of their members, 12-year-old Piper “Pippy” Murnane has a second goal, to sell 1,000 boxes of cookies to go to soldiers overseas through a partnership with Blue Star Moms.
Piper will be selling in Nevada in front of Walmart and at Safeway in South Lake Tahoe. People can also order on her website and she’ll deliver. There is no shipping charge or minimum quanity needed for the soldier’s cookies. People can email notes to send with their cookies to the troop’s email troop288girlscout@gmail.com
Cookie season ends on March 9 for both online, in person, and solider cookie purchases.
Piper says she likes Girl Scouts because she can hang out with friends, learn life skills, go on trips and enjoy other activities. Are you stuck on what cookies to purchase? Take Piper’s advise who didn’t even have to think about it when asked what her favorite was – Adventurefuls!
