NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Placer County Sheriff’s Office has announced the death of another skier at Northstar California Resort at Lake Tahoe.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies received a call on Wednesday, February 18, around 11 p.m., alerting them to a missing person. They immediately began investigating and located the missing 21-year-old man’s vehicle in the parking lot at Northstar. It had been determined that he had gone skiing and did not return as expected.
The lieutenant with the Placer County Office of Emergency Management began to coordinate resources to support search efforts.
On Thursday morning, the Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue team was activated with 15 skiers, a snowcat, and two snowmobilers to search the area along with Northstar Ski Patrol.
At about 9 a.m., the search team sadly located the man deceased.

Northstar California Resort regretfully confirms a fatality on mountain involving a 21-year-old male. Placer County Sheriff was alerted to a missing person, and it was determined that his last known location was at our mountain. Working with Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue and Northstar Ski Patrol, Placer County Sheriff began search and rescue efforts in the early morning of February 19, 2026. He was found deceased on the advanced Sugar Pine Glade trail. Northstar confirms he was an employee of the resort who was off duty at the time of the incident.
“We are heartbroken by this loss,” said Tara Schoedinger, General Manager of Northstar California Resort. “Our deepest sympathies are with his family and loved ones, and with the team members who had the privilege of working alongside him.”
This is the third death of a skier at Northstar since February 6.
